Hi - don't know whether I should be posting on here or on the success stories - but what the heck - here goes!!

Finally after a grand total of 18 weeks since I asked for my statements, I have finally come to the end of this saga!!!:T

After receiving the standard 'fob off' letter last Monday, I rang to ask for it to be re-evaluated by last Friday or I would start MCOL. Didn't get chance to ring them on Friday or complete MCOL forms so I rang Monday and was told an offer was in the post. True to form I received the offer of £923 (original claim - £1800) today, rang the 'very nice man' Steve on 01977 number and said I was 'a little disappointed' - he aksed what would make me less disappointed - I replied £1600 - HE SAID FINE!!!!! I know that it isn't my full claim but to be honest I never really had any argument with the fact that I had been charged - just the ridiculously extortionate amount they ask!!!

He said the refund will be debited to my account within next 14 days, however the £923 had already been authorised yesterday so it may go in as two amounts - does this sound right to anyone?

Thanks to Martin and all on this site who have posted information (and phone numbers!) and to Steve on 01977 for his friendly, helpful manner!!!!

    Yvonne.

Had my letter through today saying sorry we dont think the charges are unlawful !!!!!! off in so many words.

Does it matter I am claiming charges back from a Halifax Credit card rather than a bank account?

Should I just ring the magic number and ask for my case to be re-evaluated?

Any help would be great guys

I have 2 accounts with Halifax - did 2 separate claims both over £1000 - one was paid after the formalities without question, in fact they made a mistake of adding up by £50! the 2nd account they paid some then refused to pay the remaining amount and have filed a defence in court - I have a date but how daft is this! If in principle they have agreed and paid one, albeit different staff dealing, and paid in part on the other - they have said that I havent provided them the figures for the payment - but I have on both accounts - and if that was the case, why did they pay anything at all? weird but true - shame I have to take a day off work to go to court but hey ho it will be more than I earn in a month - best of luck everyone!! x

Phone 01977 627313 - tell them that the deadline for them is 1st July but you'd like if possible to avoid going to court with it and are they willing to make an offer. They can only say no mate. You'll probably get Graham, Richard or Steve and they're all really friendly.
I did this and spoke to Steve who is really helpful. However he said that he was not allowed to look into my case as I had received a letter from someone called Bhekimfundo Ncube offering 36% of my original claim. He said that he has e mailed Mr/Mrs Ncube to ring me.
My claim is acknowledged by Halifax at court at present and thet have until 2nd July to put in their defence.
    Getting scared:eek: .

Dont' know whether to hold out for full amount or accept their offer?

    Any advice?
  • :DDid pretty much everything by the book, sent a polite letter asking for money back, was told no. Used money claim online and issued a claim. They sent a cheque for half which I returned along with a rejection letter. Today i recieved an offer for £346.51 which is all charges and court fees PLUS INTEREST.

This is only a small amount compared to some of the people on here but my advice is DONT BLINK! they will chicken out before you do.

    Very happy G-Sensei

Now just need to Alliance and Leciester to stop being D***s!

Mid March claimed £4550,recieved letter stating "fees are legitimate" etc,on 5th May,phoned up asked for re-evaluation,offered £1914 on 15th June, phoned again, settled on £3,000,Yipee!!.Today i went to withdraw the money from my dormant(but not closed)account, only to be informed all funds had been reclaimed by BOS for a c/c card account which defaulted in 2000,and i have been paying off in instalments since,Booo!!Is this standard practice?

I phone ombudsmen today,it seems this is fair and legal,oh well £3000,of debt cleared, not at all bad.
