halifax bank charges (merged)

Phone up and say you're not happy with the offer and you're going to intiate court proceedings. They should then increase the offer. If not then tell them you'll be back in touch soon. Then send a recorded delivery letter saying that you'll accept the offer (make sure you head the letter "WITHOUT PREJUDICE") as part payment and you'll pursue the remainder through the courts.0

Today i got Charged £60 because Halifax randomly took out 16pence and 24pence inrest fee. As my balance is -200 and that is my limit, it went below it.
I was very calm on the phone and the very polite lady reversed the charges to my delight.0 -
Hi Everyone,
I have already posted a Question but no replies as of yet but really need some help from the people who have claimed through the courts and won. I took my claim to court and Halifax acknoledged with 14 days and so then got another 28 days to enter a defence. This was up on Sunday so i entered Judgement and they court have now issued the order to the Halifax, you can continue with a warrabt that sends in the Baliffs but how long do i wait? Will they just credit my account? Do i have to phone? I really need some help people! Thanks.:(0 -
After the usual rhetoric the Halifax has made their first offer of less than half of the charges. just over £1000
They said they would and have credited the amount to my account.
They patronizingly explain what accepting the offer means to me.
good will yeah yeah full and final... of complaint yeah yeah.
Then they said... "if you do not wish to accept our offer, please return this payment and contact me on the above number."
As I (like so many others) do not possess a cheque book contacted to
a) reject the offer and
b) ask how it was to be repaid.
Mr GG, the automated signatory of the letter was not at work when I phoned ... however a nice assistant listened to my remonstrating that the amount was derisory and I was going to take it further
She said SHE could 'give my account a managerial review' (another time waster?) to see if a further offer could be made at my further protests and demanding of how I was to return the money, she said that I could keep the money... any further monies awarded/offered would be added to my account, i need not return it.
When I told her the terms of the letter she said it was 'misleading' (wish i had it recorded)
This contradicts the terms laid out in the letter. to reject this offer I must return the amount.
To cynical old me this sounds like a con to get me to accept this offer.
Can any one shed any light.
I feel I have made progress... but my strength is ebbing.0 -
Ive decided to bite the bullet and call the bank tommorrow to say i am rejecting the offer of £475,my claim is for 1113.39 charges and an additional £213 interest. But to be honest im unsure what to say realistically id be happy with just the charges or there abouts but not sure what i should say to negotiate for that. What have other people said thats worked?0

Hi everyone
Just wondering what dates people sent their original request for their charges back who have recieved offers from the bank without going to court and when they recieved them as sent mine on the 23rd March and have nothing yet. Keep ringing and getting told its in date order blah blah blah so just curious.
Thanks0 -
Hello everyone claiming from HALIFAX. I have watched and read all these threads for the last few months and just wanted to say that i followed Martins instructions to the lata....
Posted and requested bank charges for my 2 accounts back in FEB
Didnt come so called them and told them that by law i was suppose to get them within 42days and now it was 45.
Got apology and they arrived 2 days later.
Sent 1st letter requesting charges back in full from both my current accounts
1 = nearly £4,000 2 = nearly £6,000
Two weeks later got standard letter stating they were within there rights etc etc.
Straight away i sent 2 nd letter staing i would take them to court if they didnt cough up and i gave them only 14 days to respond otherwise i was taking them to crt.
No reply when the 14 days were up so stuck to my word and filed with MCOL
They acknowledge claim and said they intended to defend and were then allowed 28days to put in defence.
Defence up today at midnight.
Last friday first lot of money appeared in my account, full amount + interest+ court fee.
Called them today and asked for update on other account before i file judgement.
They had lost claim and i had to fax it through today and they would call me today once they had recieved it.
Told them if i didnt reciev call them i was filling for judgement first thing in morning.
True to their word they called me hour ago and said they were sorry about the mix up and the full amount would be in my account by morning +interest+ court fee.
So all i can say is follow Martins advice. You make the time scales and dont faulter from it.
Well i think i may shop now !!!!0 -

Hi
I am new to all this and have read this thread with interest. Thanks for everyones advice.
I have this evening called Halifax and requested 6 years of statements for the two accounts I hold with them. I was told it would take approx 4 weeks and has cost me £5.00.
If you want your list of charges quickly, rather than waiting the 40 days
or more, just ring 08457 20 30 40, and press 5 to speak to someone.
I'll keep you all posted about what happens.
Update:
I am awaiting my court date now and intend going all the way with this. Have another 4 claims in at the moments.
Good luck everyone!0
