What does escalating the claim mean?

You didnt have to give them that long. Have you written any letters? You need to put in a letter before action now to gee them up. Give them say 2 weeks to settle in full or you will take court action. Martin's guide on thi site is very helpful.

you have done the right thing. make sure everything goes by rec del. I have heard from a very reliable source that they are taking on new people every day to deal with the backlog of claims. There is allegedly a high turnover due to the pressure they are under and the complexities of the system. Not making excuses for HBOS/ Halifax, but thought this info may help paint the picture. The person I spoke to - who is a contractor for HBOS - is on the verge of leaving and said it's chaos at the moment. Keep pushing them with the claim.

try and keep everything in writing (and recorded delivery) as per the process outlined by Martin Lewis on here. That way you have proof of what you have done. Give them timescales to keep to and take them to court if they dont reply or comply in time. If you keep ringing you'll get mixed messages from each person you speak with and it'll drive you mad and may delay your claim. Good luck.

definatley ring them, be nice yet firm on the phone. Is your account still active as they usually ignore the letters that accounts have been closed. They have sent me a letter saying bank charges are gair blah blah blah and then they have not replied to my second letter so I phoned them yesterday and they said its been sent to be discussed by someone higher and have up to eight weeks to let me know Im hoping they will come back to me with an offer. anyone else at this stage or been at this stage. might try that obusman guy...

The woman on the phone said to be "oh you seem to have given us a timescale unfortunatly we dont comply with the demands of customers" arrrr whos right

been on the ball with letters sent to them. sent them a letter last week saying if no reply in 7 days then court. since been told they are escalating the claim.... am i actually any nearer to getting the money.... or shall i just take them to court.?

I need help i have recieved a letter for a partial offer of £475 i am claiming £1400,the letter states that this gesture of goodwil will be credited to m bank account within 14days.I am unsure what to do next i would like to claim the whole amount,any advice would be great.

hi, having read lots of previous posts on here, a lot of peeps having got an offer have called the number on the letter and negotiated a better amount. you can still do "with out prejudice" and go for the balance. best bet is to look over the previous threads to get an idea of your next move.:T

This is getting crazy now. they should just pay everyone back and leave it at that instead of playing stupid games of how far can they push the customer. But like someone said after receieving the second 'charges are fair' letter some ppl dont go any further and leave it at that. does my nut in.

So you think i should call and renegotiate?The actual Charges are 1113.39 while the rest is interets i would be happy with £1000 .Im not really sure how i go about negotiating what do you say,or should i write a letter and goto ombudsman or court?
