The Social Security Act (I think Section 187) makes it clear that it is unlawful for a charge to be levied against ur income support. Therefore phone the bank and explain that you are reporting them to DWP, and actually do it, they will investigate.

Ok........I have looked it up (somewhere on the Benefits Thread)

    Social Security Administration Act 1992
    Miscellaneous
Certain benefit to be inalienable **

187- Subject to the provisions of this Act, every assignment of, or charge on-
    (a)benefit as defined in section 122 of the Contributions and Benefits Act;
    (b)any income-related benefit; or
    (c)child benefit,
and every agreement to assign or charge such benefit shall be void; and, on the bancrupcy of the beneficiary, such benefit shall not pass to any trustee or other person acting on behalf of his creditors.

Well, the Halifax have taken all my income support. I have been unable to
contact the DWP since last week and now they are on strike. I've not long
come out of hospital so cannot get to the office.

The Halifax have now effectively given me an unauthorised overdraft and
charging me for it. They are totally ignoring me. I have no food, gas or electric.

I'm too ill to cope with all this. Is there someone I can contact for immediate
help? I know I'm asking the impossible.

Hi, in relation to my last post about Halifaxsaying its 40 working days from when they cashed the cheque. I called them and basically said I was not happy and wanted the information, they took all my contact details, home and mobile number as well as email address and said that "someone" would look into it and I should get a response within a week - do you think i should give them the week or do as I said in my letter and "I shall seek remedy from the Information Commissioner."

send letter as well as back up personally id go to bank in person and complain and get them to contact head office/customer relations for you and get them emailed to branch

In relation to the last post. Contact citizens advice I'm sure there is something that can be done. Maybe ask if there is a local law centre that can advise you in this matter. Most places have a free telephone line where you have immediate access to an advisor its just finding out there telephone number. But keep your chin up as you'll be the one laughing when you settlement comes through.

    Hi all
To all of you out there waiting for a relpy to the first letter requesting a copy of your charges save yourself time and money. I first applied back in December for the list of charges and the fourty days came and went and guess what? not a word from the bank that gives you extra!! So not being one to give-up without a fight I walked into my local branch. They were only too happy to order my statements and it didn't cost a penny. One week later to the day and all my statements arrived. I have since recommended to all my fellow Halifax customers to go to the branch to request the statements.
I am currently at the MYCOL stage and Halifax have until the 14th to acknoeldge. Don't sit around waiting for a reply, stick to your timescale and hang on in there.
    :)
