halifax bank charges (merged)

I posted this in the other forum, then looked in here and cant seem to see anything similar
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone can help - as I clearly do not trust my bank! I sent the initial letter requesting my list of charges to the Halifax bank, I sent this 15th April, however they did not cash the cheque until the 18th April. I called them yesterday as in my mind it has gone past the 40 days in which they can reply. However they said due to demand etc they class the 40 days as the day in which they cash the cheque and that the 40 day period which is stated in my letter is 40 working days not calendar days - can anyone let me know if this correct - or what i should do next and apologies if someone has already asked this question.0 -

it ll be 8 weeks not 4 i got 8 weeks letter then they send another after 4 weeks stating they are still investigating complaint blah blah will take another 4 weeks
i wouldnt bother waiting send step 4 letter for both accounts threatening court proceedings remember to add interest and court fees in your claim
this should tell halifax your serious and not willing to back down
you are the claimant so you set timescales not the bank
dont fall into trap of waiting on halifax you tell them not they tell you!!!!!!
heres a link of next letter

let me know how you get on like me you ll probably have to file court claim
been a week since bank was served fingers crossed
good luck!:A
Thanks for your response. Do I need to mention the 4 week letter anywhere when I send the next letter to them, or just ignore the fact I have received this letter completely? I tend to think that I need to mention it somewhere. If I do, are there any templates for this around?
Appreciate the help0 -

I pretty much posted the following on the general discussion forum yesterday, but then noticed this thread dealing specifically with the Halifax, so thought I'd see if anyone is having a similar experience with them.
I posted the 1st template letter last Friday, the 27th, and was surprised that I got a reply on Monday 30th. i was even more surprised that they returned the tenner cheque I had sent!
They said:
'Thank you for your letter concerning charges applied to your above account.
I have today requested your previous six years bank statements of which you will receive in the post shortly...
I have also enclosed your chq for £10.00.'
They dont say why they have returned the cheque, as in the service is free or some such, and reading through other posts I see that Halifax has taken everyone else's fees (I may have missed some posts where they waived the fee, sorry if I didn't see them.) Frankly this bothers me since I wonder if this is a delay tactic they are employing. Do they still have to respond with my statements 40 days from my original letter even if they haven't taken the fee? I'm a bit dubious about the word 'shortly'
try going into local branch ask them to fax or email charges to your branch it worked for me and i didnt pay for them either:T0 -
Hi All,
Gave the Halif*@x their 40 day, then contacted the financial ombidsmun people who wrote to them and gave bank extra 8 weeks. this is nearly up!
still incomplete set of statements. do I threaten to start proceedings and then ask the court for disclosure of the statements because until then I won't know the final figure???!
Thanks, snowberry:huh:
i asked for mine in local branch and got them emailed within 5 mins its worth a try explain your situation and basically they are taking the p!!!0 -

Hi have received an offer now from Halifax which I'm going to accept as it is more than the charges I was claiming without interest? Just wanted to check the acceptance form though...
"I confirm that i accpet the offer of £393 from Halifax in full and final settlement of my compalint regarding bank charges on my halifax accounts."
Is this OK? Don't want to sign anything that can then be used to trip me up in future!! Thanks.0 -

if you ve had the acceptance ring them up and say you ll accpet the amount but want it in writing you are settling for the above amount then you have evidence from then and you may not need to sign anything0 -
Hi, in relation to my last post about Halifaxsaying its 40 working days from when they cashed the cheque. I called them and basically said I was not happy and wanted the information, they took all my contact details, home and mobile number as well as email address and said that "someone" would look into it and I should get a response within a week - do you think i should give them the week or do as I said in my letter and "I shall seek remedy from the Information Commissioner."0
