Hi
I am new to this so please bear with me.
I sent the letter off to my bank 4 weeks ago requesting payment of the charges, I got the standard reply back that it had been passed to customer relations and I would hear within 4 weeks, which was up today.
I telephoned the local branch and they gave me the number for customer relations, after finally getting through I was told, "you were sent a letter dated 09 February, I have got nothing further to tell you, these charges are taking up 8 weeks to sort out" when I pointed out that the letter stated I would hear within 4 weeks the phone was put down on me. I then telephoned the local branch to get the address for customer relations and was refused this information.
I was going to wait till friday and then telephone a lawyer.......is there anyone out there who has had a similar experience and can advise me what to do,
thanks lorraine::T0 -

Good luck
Taff
Thanks for that Taff I thought it was a delay tactic but not sure if what they said was standard practice. I too also thought thay are trying to wait til April. I will get my second letter in the post and quote them 7 days to reply. I have heard that getting the FSO involved that the banks cave in straight away to avoid the FSO looking into their actual charges is this true??0 -

They got the letter on Ftiday so they cant say they didnt.
My first post!!
I too sent the charge request letter off on 12/02/2007, and have had no reply. I called the telephone banking service last week to ask what was going on, as they'd cashed my cheques, (2x£10 for two accounts) two weeks ago, and was told there was nothing on the system, but that they would get the information to me within 14 days.
Today I rang the customer complaint line.. 08456 037923, and the very helpful lady told me the data protection office was a small operation, and if all you want is a breakdown of 6 years charges, you only have to ask. She also said she was pulling out the information as we spoke, also that it's free, and that the £20 (from the cheques), will be credited to my accounts, and that I'll have the information in the post tomorrow, (heres hoping!).
She went on to say that if i e-mail the first letter requesting my charges back, along with posting, the matter should be dealt with more quickly.
Trouble is, there's no e-mail address on the Halifax website, but the nice lady helps out again by giving it to you!
Good luck all0 -
My wife was recently charged for going over her overdraft limit and she paid the charges. This reduced her account to zero. Imagine her surprise when she looked in the account again 2 months later and found 2 months worth of further charges. She has refused to pay these and she has written to have the earlier charges she paid returned. Halifax kept phoning at night and threatening her with blacklisting and they have since taken money from her ISA to pay some of the charges. They have done all this without her permission. She distinctly told them they could not touch her savings but Halifax took them anyway. They are going to keep adding charges to her account. Should she pay the lot and then reclaim them or just not pay and try to fight it out. We would appreciate some advice from anyone who has had the same treatment.0

I have just recieved my 1st reply today from the Halifax informing me that they are going to take 8 weeks to investigate and respond my "complaint" as is regulated by Financial services on how to handle complaints.
Is mine a complaint?
Are they trying to delay this until April when they'll have to pay me less?
What should I do?
I think by virtue we are disagreeing with their level of charges makes it a complaint, so yes all of us asking for charge refund are complaining technically.
I too have received this same letter, it's been discussed above as another Halifax "delaying" process.. I've ignored this and went immediately to the next level before court action.
Hope I've helped you a little.. don't wait until April! We will win this! we will!.... and we did! :j0 -
Lorraine,
I am at the same stage as your good self. I asked a very similar question too. Everyone will suggest read the reclaiming your charges guide as set out my the one and only Martin. Then stick to your dates, don't let them bully you by giving you all this nonsense.

Hi all
I have challenged the halifax over my unfair charges and they wrote 2 weeks ago offering me the full amount less interest. Trouble is they said i have to wait 14 working days from receipt of the signed letter (accepting the money) and that time is up friday. What do i do if it is not back in my bank by then?0 -
Just been on to the customer relations dept enquiring about my statements , and was asked did I pay the £5 per account ,no I paid £10 each . She said they now have a 6 week backlogue for some reason ... it used to be under 2 weeks hey ho will call again in a couple of days ...:rotfl:Im not really mad...0
