halifax bank charges (merged)

I'm trying to claim back charges on my hubbys Halifax accounts (x2). We sent a letter asking for statements and enc. a £10 postal order. Anyway phoned them last week and they do not seem to have received - what a suprise!
So they will be sending more out but why is it that Halifax seem to take so long?? Have not had the same trouble with my accounts with other banks?0 -

I have had enough and have just written the letter threating them with court action. I have been corresponding with the Customer relations department but before I fire off the next letter can anyone tell me if this is the right course of action or should I try another approach (QUOTE]My 4 week period is due on Monday 12th February, so I thought I would pre-empt them yesterday and decided to phone and see how far along with my query so far.
No surprise to learn that a letter is scheduled to be sent out bang on the fourth week. However the guy I spoke to admitted that it was likely to say that they were still dealing with the query, and that they would contact me again in the next 4 weeks, taking them up to the 8 weeks under FSA terms. He also advised that it was unlikely I would receive a resolution to my query prior to the 8th week, and that if I do it's unlikely to be for the amount claimed. Their procedure so far has been to make a token offer apparently. They are obliged to make a 'final written statement' as directed by the FSA in 8 weeks and if that doesn't happen then I can refer the case to the financial ombudsman. That's my understanding of the situation anyway as confirmed by the F.O. yesterday.
Incidently the guy insisted that taking advantage of the 8 week period was not a delaying tactic, merely the fact that they are having to deal with large volumes of queries at the moment.
Will keep you updated as to how my own case is progressing.0 -
Thanks for that. I think I will send the court letter today. It gives them 14 days to respond which is only 14 days earlier than the 8 week maximum that you spoke of. Hopefully this will push them to answer me a bit sooner. I will keep you posted on how that goes. It can't hurt to push them just that little bit harder.
Cheers!yvonneyoung wrote:My 4 week period is due on Monday 12th February, so I thought I would pre-empt them yesterday and decided to phone and see how far along with my query so far.

I have sent off a letter to the halifax with all the bank chargers on it and the total etc.
Today i got a letter off them saying that the Financial Services Authority gives them 8 weeks to investigate and respond to complaints but they will do there best to get back to me within 4 weeks.
Can they do this?
what step should i take next?0 -
Its a standard letter. I had one of these I chose to send them a letter back telling them if it not resolved by the 9th march I am starting legal proceedings. Just stick to your timeframe and do not let them dictate and string you along.0
