    Hi all,

I started my work in UK in the end of January 2013. All the payslips and annual statement (in April 2013 - my first in UK) had tax code 810L (taken from Final Tax Code). But all payslips after April had 944L. Why is that ? Was the 810L correct one ?

810L was correct for tax year 2012/13 and 944L is correct for tax year 2013/14.

Tax codes are based on the personal tax free allowance which usually changes each year.

I have a tax code of 944L, income of 12300pa, I have a deduction each month of £5 for a 'Pension salary sacrifice'.. does this count as one of the 'deductions' on Martins list?

The checker says "There's a difference of £560.00 between the tax free allowance suggested by ONLY your age & salary, and the one from your tax code."

Sounds too good to be true? :undecided

..I chose tax year 2014/15 on the checker.. is this right?

2014/15 has not started yet; it will start with your first wage on or after 6 April 2014. You need 2013/14.

Can someone please tell me if my tax code is correct please.

I have a tax code of 287L for my occupational pension.

I have just had £59.60 taken from my pension but feel this is a lot.

I have no idea if it is correct or not, so would be obliged if someone could help me.

    Thank you

No one can tell you on what you have given so far, you have to give full details of all taxable income, including state pension, and any other tax codes issued. Also helpful if you give details from coding notice on how 287L was arrived at.

If you have a tax code of 287L then you can be fairly certain that your tax is £59.60.
The trick with PAYE is to ensure that your code number is correct. Do you have your P2 which explains your code number?

    1. were you born before or after 5/4/1948 and if before was it before 6/4/1938.
    2. Your code should be in the area of 1000 and this may be reduced by the amount of any untaxed income ie a state pension. You could have a state pension of £7130.

    Personal Allowance 10,000 - 7123 (136.99 X 52) =2877
    Code number 287L

    Or Occ Pen £6461 + state pen £7123 = £13,584 less PA 10,000 =£3584
    3,584 X 20% = £716.80 (tax pa) £59.70 per month

    All OK

You've never been tempted to have a gross interest account have you?
