    Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help. I have been doing a check up on my finances and noticed I was down about £200/month to what I should be taking home. I checked my payslip and my tax code is 536L which doesn't seem to be right.
I called HMRC last night and they said it was because the system was showing that I was still working in a job that I left in 2008! He said I needed to show my P45 to prove that I left.
I don't have my P45 and I have contacted my previous employer and they don't appear to have a copy either.
Can anyone suggest what else I might do? I feel like it should be HMRC that sorts this out because the P45 had originally gone to them, as from 2009 to 2012 my tax code was correct.
    Help!

k, was a bit bored tonight so tried to find my P60 and found a few.

Quick one first: How far back can I claim lets say until end of this week? I have seen that 09/10 can be claimed until next year. is it worth trying to claim the other years?

    The P60 i found so far are for 11/12, 05/06, 08/09 and 07/08.

Going by the Tax Checker I have overpaid in all years:

    11/12 - £365
    08/09 - £360
    07/08 - £860
    05/06 - £5 (!)

I also checked a Payslip from Taxyear 12/13 which indicates another overpayment of £365.

I guess I shall give HMRC a quick call?

in regards to the other P60 I have to speak to my HR department.

earliest you can now go back is 09/10 (you would have needed to apply before 5th April 2013 for 08/09)

Well, just been on the phone and a guy said I paid too much for the last year, however the other years were actually correct payment.

He said he is not allowed to tell me how much I would get back.

2 weeks until I get the certificate and yet another week to get the cheque.

I would imagine that you have a lower tax code than the normal as you have taxable benefits that need to be taken into account. In a case like that the MSE tax checker is not much use.

    What is your tax code?

The normal tax code was 810L for last tax year. What taxable benefit do you have?

They're worth £380 as that's how much your personal allowance has been reduced. In your case the MSE tax checker is never going to work and it will always say you have overpaid.

You can check here where you can enter your particular tax code.

    Hi all,

I started my work in UK in the end of January 2013. All the payslips and annual statement (in April 2013 - my first in UK) had tax code 810L (taken from Final Tax Code). But all payslips after April had 944L. Why is that ? Was the 810L correct one ?
