Have you tried moving the bed round the room it's in at the moment - I know that might sound strange but I got a great night's sleep when I was decorating our bedroom and moved the bed out of the way but facing in a different direction - if the room was big enough I'd have left it there.

Maybe it would be worth trying before you go to the expense of adding loos and decorating - though it would add value in the long run having the additional stuff upstairs?

eta - maybe it's something to do with Lei lines ( or should that be lay lines since it's in the bedroom) that we don't really understand. Know any good dowsers? :)
I do know we move my DD's room around from winter to summer and she sleeps more soundly lying east to west than she does west to east, iyswim. Has been the same since she was very small, so she's a bit too young to be "feeling weird"

  • that was a laugh out loud moment:rotfl: Well, more than a moment...I'm still laughing.

Glad you got to the bottom of it OP. :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
  • for want of sounding a bit mercinary, why don't you ask an estate agent in the area which work, the drive or the loft conversion, would add more value to the house ? I have a feeling you could end up with a 'win-win' situation.
just another thought, does your partner work or spend time watching daytime t.v. ? daytime t.v. is full of 'ideas' to improve your house/life/prospects/relationships etc.... and should be avoided at all costs :-)

Well we've got to the bottom of it all but who knows, maybe a change around might also be a good idea too. :)

It is pretty funny. I've gotta love her and now I can understand it all too which is a load off my mind. I dunno, having me worry all day over that... She owes me a mocha :D

Oh no worries on the daytime TV front. She's out of the house most of the day, only gets back in at 10-11pm - except for weekends, which is our together days, although she does allow me to watch football on Sunday... most of the time. I can't stand daytime TV... a bit of Comedy Central between work is enough for me! :D

tbh tropez - a four poster bed with drapes WOULD cost a lot less than converting the attic room with en-suite bathroom (I HAVE read all the thread)! but I am not sure that I would be able to sleep with so many dogs in the room anyway - and I ADORE dogs! and having doggy voyeurs would certainly put me off any bedroom adventures! perhaps she is thinking let the dogs have the downstairs bedroom ..................and we can be away from prying eyes upstairs? bit like having kids really! once you let them in the bedroom then your 'private' life is over! relegate the dogs to guard duty outside the bedroom door? oh dear I see probs ahead as the dogs really wont understand if they are banned from the bedroom now! your OH may well be right in that leaving the dogs in the bedroom they know and re-locating is the answer!

The thing is though, the dogs don't sleep in my bedroom because it is their bedroom too - they sleep there because they want to sleep near to me. If I fall asleep on the sofa, they sleep in the same room. They're whippets after all and separation anxiety is part and parcel of owning them. While most of their more destructive behaviour has been curbed and I can safely leave them to their own devices during the day, it is a different issue at night. I had a nasty virus for a week and didn't want them in the room; I barely got any sleep that week because they howled every night - they seemed to take it in turns to voice their displeasure. :rotfl:

I don't foresee moving upstairs to actually provide any answer as the dogs will want to follow me and when shut downstairs, which they would have to be, as I'd have to block the stairs off to them, they would go mental.

I personally believe it would be more feasible to keep them nearby but out of sight, rather than try and keep them away altogether.
