Hello new people - welcome aboard! Special mention to Squizz who was indeed "summoned" - I didn't think it'd work so will have to try that with others too! :p

Some lovely examples of "Cold" there - love the icicles, and that snowflake is brilliant!

Cheri, you're prevaricating again, as am I (used every excuse in the book to NOT go outside today!) so I suggest we should motivate each other to get off out behinds and take some shots either tomorrow or Sunday. You up for that? :D

Quick tip for those with cameras with manual settings - if you shoot snow scenes using your "program auto" or equivalent setting, because snow is *so* white, it fools your camera into thinking it needs to compensate for it, so it does by underexposing the scene, meaning that sometimes your snowy shots appear slightly dark and almost grey-ish. Try setting the camera to overexpose slightly - by anything up to two stops or even more - and see the difference in the results, you'll notice far whiter, crisper looking snow. There is a decent guide HERE - and another one HERE too.

Cheery - Can't believe the ice on those roses

Squizz - Those trees are fab, wouldn't like to be under that with someone shaking them!

EH - Maybe something similarly scenic (but with no snow) for you next year :cool2:

Pooky - What a great shot for your daughter to catch

I think I'm going to be hunkered down in front of the open fire this weekend, no work and the wind's supposed to be coming in from the North again so it's probably going to get rather slippy out there.

Hello all! I've been lurking away, have decided to keep my pretty basic (canon ixus50) in my bag with me now as I walk/cycle into work so have plenty opportunity to use it rather than have it sit in a drawer at home :o

Today sprung the chance for catching a few nice snaps. The one below I've titled "Sun, sea and . . . . SNOW!"

Wish I'd caught it at a decent angle though as it's a bit squint as I was trying to keep the bike and myself from falling over :rotfl:

Talking of recognising places - looking at it again I think I recognise that view you've posted. Yes, I suspect I may manage something vaguely similarly scenic sometime around Easter next year! :D

EH you're right about the location, i almost took a photo of the lakeland building but we didn't make it that far down the high street.

there's lots of wonderful photo's for this challenge. One of my dreams is to take a photo of a snowflake but the only one i'm likely to ever managed is my sisters black cat who's name is snowflake. I've not left the house today yay! but have to tomorrow so will be able to take some pictures.

I'm ashamed to admit I missed all the opportunities I had to take pictures when the snow was laying. It's odd - in the past I've always taken the chance to take snow pics - but I think after all the snow earlier in the year I've felt a little underwhelmed by the falls last week. Add to that the fact that we didn't really have sufficient to make for really interesting / exciting pics, and I just couldn't get motivated to get my behind out there.

Instead my lateral thinking head has been on....it is still fairly nippy outside - what I was lacking was a way of showing this fact, particularly as today is sunny and rather nice, if fresh, outside. After a bit of thought what I came up with was this:
