The one thing to remember is that a 35mm film camera shooting at 100 iso is shooting at the digital equivalent of 48M/p.
As for Sony Alpha DSLR's, my friend bought a Minolta Dimage from ebay for £10, and the 18 - 70mm Minolta zoom lens is way better than the standard one shipped with the A100/200/300/350 etc. By buying lenses designed for 35mm film cameras, you can keep them if you upgrade to a full-frame DSLR. The only thing to remember is that these lenses have a 1.6x magnification when attached to an APS-C format camera.

I love the door pf our cathederal and how the colour of the stone contrasts with it, I got my graduation photo taken here - we're lucky to have a beautiful building right in the middle of town, red sandstone - wonderful in the light.

I've a couple more to put in but photobucket is driving me bonkers it keeps crashing.............................

I love the old door handle - made me wonder how long it had been there.................the wood is now discoloured with rust - looks gorgeous.

Tried looking up from a different angle..............dunno if it worked? Never taken photo of a building before.........................!
Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:
    minus 112.06 = £7755.32:money:

  • The 1.6x crop can be quite annoying. On my Canon, the Zeiss Planar 85 works like a tele-focus lens... still, it's better than 2x crop for Micro 4/3.

Last year, I went mad and bought 50 rolls of Ektar 100, sold 15 and have been trying to use them up :) I need to stock up on some Velvia 50

  • ROFL @ Diable - you missed a bit! :rotfl: I like the shot - love the idea of having just half the eye in view, and also love the contrast of the light on the eye and the building in shadow. If ever you're in the area at night and have a tripod with you - walk just to the right of where you are, to the end of the avenue of trees - with a wide angle lens on board you can shoot down the avenue of trees and get the wheel bang in the centre of the frame at the end - with the trees all lit up and the eye also, it makes for a really effective shot!

Pippi - I LOVE your cathedral door! Absolutely gorgeous - and without question "Something architectural" too - MrEH just had a look and he liked it too, it looks like a beautiful building. I love the detail shot of the door handle too. As for the shot upwards of the window, I think you can safely say that works - well it does for me, anyway! I love quirky shots like that of old buildings - churches tend to be fantastic places for all sorts of weird and wonderful exterior details.

Mine are going to be a bit of a contract after Pippi's piece of history and Diable's modern day icon. The town where I live is a "New Town" - the town centre was built in the 1950's & 60's as I think the shot below of a deserted market square shows quite well....

And then - although MrEH says this is not strictly speaking "architectural" - we have the varied and decorative patchwork of paving in the main pedestrian street through the town centre:

Just caught my eye with the number of different patterns in that small area, really.

Will be away from my 'puter the next few days but look forward to catching up on everyone's efforts on Monday - Cheri have a fantastic weekend!

  • Diable - like your "looking up" shot - Docklands ois great for shots like that too - especially at night, although it leads to some odd contortions underneath a tripod! :rotfl:

Hmmm....you lot do know that there is going to be a "night-time" based theme coming up at some stage, don't you - I've not had a good old play with night-shots for ages. :D

I think for night time shots "upwards" this one would be one of my favourites.....

  • Well here are my attempts at the theme.....

This is a derelict 1940's shoe factory near me that always catches my eye

I really liked how the sun was shining through the non existing windows...

It was the shape the shadows made that interested me here

I couldn't help but take a snap of this sculpture made of scaffolding

Hope they fit the theme ok?
