I did tick the 'no grid card received' box.

No initial Debit Card payment was made when opening the account - maybe your initial £5 knocked the system out of joint?

Correct according to Skipton but the freephone solution is the way ahead. I topped up with debit card using Laura at Skipton who gave a speedy response. 5 day delivery on grid card.

Might be of use to anyone opening this bond. Although its easier to use the debit card option as method of funding your account. Just in case large transactions get declined using your debit card you can also do a bank transfer to pay money in to your account using the following details:

Sort code- 20.78.42 / Account No- 70798924 and enter your Skipton account number as the reference number.

I also bank with HSBC. Ive had debit card payments over £10K declined before by their fraud department when they cant get in touch with you to confirm the payment. Although its a pain it is reassuring that there are these security measures in place.
I was advised by HSBC to give them a call before making any debit card payments for over £10k, that way they put a marker on your account for a period of time to authorise that payment (it seems to work for £10K+ payments when Ive phoned them before hand).

  • Skipton withdrew this Bond this morning. If you already have opened one you can top up for another 7 days - cut off 4pm next Thursday.

New 1 year E-Bond has taken it place at 3.15%

  • Just to say " I love this forum"

Firstly I hadn't found this bond on any of the portals I normally use and secondly I was going to wait until my 1yr bond with NS&I matured today before opening the account. Following comments on here I applied online last Tuesday but didn't deposit any funds. When I came on here this morning and spotted the news re the bond being closed and having 7 days to fund the account I did that. But for this forum I may very well have just assumed I had missed the boat.

This is definitely the best place on the net to find information on financial matters, all you need to know in one place.

    Couple of additional comments:
Firstly my NS&I bond ended today (12th) and the money was waiting for me in my linked account first thing this morning. Three Cheers for NS&I.
Secondly, regarding warning your bank re large movements the Halifax said there was no way to do it and I tried in the local branch and the 24hr call centre. Luckily the debit card request by Skipton for 50K went through without a problem.

    Cheers

Is it 7 days from now ? I thought you were allowed up to 7 days after account opening if it closed before then, but I might be thinking of something else. Can't see it in the T&C now.

I can see where the information has come about this being withdrawn. Can I ask where you got the info about having 7 days to top it up?

I think I got in just in time! I opened mine yesterday...:o

I confirmed it is 7 days from today with the Skipton Customer Services when I was transferring my dosh this morning. Also of interest maybe, I checked that you could do multiple deposits for the next 7 days in case I had transfer limit problems from the Halifax. As it happened I didn't.

    Cheers
