I hope this is a symptom of a little bit more competition coming to the market.0

For those who've successfully applied for this account, I guess you've deposited sums straight away?
I note that they insist on further ID verification, originals of which needs to be posted to them - this is what's stopping me from applying (for now). Not that I've anything to hide, it's just the inconvenience of it all.
It's only happened to me once recently. Is it me, or has anyone else notice banks of any description are getting tougher in this area?0 -
I haven't funded the account yet (waiting for NS&I later this week), but didn't need to send any docs - have you moved in the last few years?0

My account application was accepted on line without having to send any further I.D. documents.
Was issued account number straight away and got emailed my login I.D. When I login, it gives me the option of funding the account with a debit card payment. Only thing I'm waiting to be sent to me in the post is a Grid Card which lets you carry out more instructions on line. It's only happened to me once recently. Only one I had an issue with proving my I.D. on line was with ICICI Bank, it put me off from opening the account with them in the end (went with the AA instead), not that I had anything to hide but its the way they wanted me to get the I.D. documents verified, too many hoops to jump through for my liking!Never let the perfume of the premium overpower the odour of the risk0 -
Yes, Froglet, that's the link I've been using. Just gave it another go and it lets me fill in my application then pops up the message I put in an earlier post when I click submit application.0

How annoying Claire! Still they should hopefully be able to sort it out over the phone.
Like the others ,i haven't put any funds in yet, waiting for a transfer from an instant access ac(I like the way they call it that, then it takes 2-3 days to arrive in your bank!)
I do like the way you can use a debit card to transfer ,don't have to wait for direct debit to be set up via the bank as in most accounts.0 -
Thanks for the replies.
Anyone else with experience on applying online with Skipton? It appears from their 'proving your identidy' pdf, this method of applying will, not may, result in having to supply paper-based ID's. As stated, it's just an inconvenient hoop to jump through.
Although the accounts are opened and deposits invited, is it likely for them to request further ID in their welcome letter?0 -

I phoned today and apparently the problem was to do with being both a previous Scarborough and Skipton customer. Anyway, sorted by the helpline and I've now been able to apply and be accepted online. Will move money in by debit card when it has cleared.0
