"Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 16/10/06. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well."
Well howdy folks, I've only just sat down and thought I should start the DT as it is well in to a Monday...
Today has been an active day in the house of Zed's ... although not a lot of zzzzz's have abounded as DD has an ear infection which is always a joy for all involved!
However, I did manage to clear some of the garden, including ripping up all the tomato plants, which for some bizarre reason still wanted to flower .. do they not know it's almost Winter
.
DH finished fitting my fireplace in my office, so hopefully it means when it gets nippy whilst I'm working I can have a good log fire :j . It's only a small fire, but then again, it's only a small room
He also fitted two of the light fittings in the dining room, so it's looking more and more like a dining room
I cleaned my office floor in true OS ways, including cleaning with white vinegar, turps and linseed oil and polishing with beeswax and turps .... it took a while, but wowsers, was it worth it
Deep cleaned the bedroom
and turfed out some of the box room .. however, that is going to take more willpower than today brought :rotfl: .
Oh and did about 6 loads of washing .... but no ironing .... yet.
Monday-wise, I shall be working and then evening class, with a vague attempt at doing some more cleaning, as have people staying on wed/thurs, and then other people staying fri/sat ... finally, with mother and aunt a-visiting on Sunday  .
Food wise - not a clue, but our current battle plan, is not to go to the takeaway because we've run out of puff. We've been pretty good so far this month, but I've decided we need to do a batch cook session one evening to make a load of "ready meals" for all the nights neither DH nor I can be fagged ... but we want more than chilli / spag bol / stew for those meals, so will need to put my thoughtful head on ... any suggestions ... for example, can we prep lamb shank and freeze it, that kind of thing ...
Right, this is probably the longest opening thread in history .. so I shall finish my drink and retire to bed, safe in the knowledge that my office is spotless, but I've mislaid my token to login to work .... hmmm ... I know I put it somewhere safe!!!

Thanks for starting the thread for today.
As some may know I have recently lost my sister very suddenly & unexpectantly, so will visit my mum today to take her shopping. My father is terminally ill & spends each Monday at our local hospice, which is the only reason she can leave the house tomorrow.
It is so hard for me to see my parent's hurting so much, especially as they already have had so much to cope with already this year.
It would be so nice if you could all tell a relative how much you love them, I wish I had.

Oh Westy, I didn't know about your sister. I'm so sorry.
I really hope that you and the rest of your family are getting through all of this as best you can. Hopefully getting to go out with you today will help lift your Mum a little bit.
I can't imagine how you must be feeling at the moment, but it sounds like you are being really strong for your Mum and Dad.....just remember to look after yourself too.
Your post has made me think, and I promise you that I'll tell at least one of my family how much I love them today.
We don't always appreciate what we have....well I know that I don't. Thank you for reminding me.
<<<<Hugs for you>>>>

My sister lived 2 hrs away from us so we didn't meet often. My Grandma is still living independently at 95 but relies on me for shopping etc, but has taken this badly. Like i said, I really wish I had told her how much I loved her when it mattered. I can only hope other people will learn from my mistakeNow thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker0

Morning everyone
Westy - I had no idea about your sister. How terrible, your whole family must be in shock. I'm so sorry for your loss.
*************
I think it is time I bit the bullet today and go off to look at carpet. I've got two big bedrooms, the landing and the stairs to do - I am probably being v.unrealistic but I don't want to spend more than £1,000 for the whole lot. I might be able to stretch another couple of hundred, but prefer not to. I hate the hassle of them coming to measure up and simply cannot abide the sales patter! But it's got to be done. The worst bit will be emptying the two bedrooms on my own...what a nightmare...best get on with more decluttering today.
Taplady - I threw caution to the wind last night and sank my teeth into one of my muffins. They were lovely! Slightly heavy, but definitely not in the inedible category. OK I tell a lie....I didn't have one muffin, I had two. I can resist everything except temptation. I then engaged my mouth with some chewing gum which bought time to wrap the muffins and chuck them in the freezer. Thanks again for the recipe - I'll do them again in a week or two, but with the bicarb.
I've only had four hours kip....I'm going back to bed to try and wring out another hour or two of shut eye.
Have the best Monday you can everyone.

Morning Guys!
Westywoodpecker-(((((((((((((((Hugs)))))))))))))))))
Slept well last night which is the first time in a while. Hospital again today:eek:
WM is on, DW will be put on in abit and toilet cleaned. House generally clean and tidy but have to sort our room where one of the wardrobes have been emptied.
DD is on a school trip to Canterbury today, so have done her packed lunch of Marmite sarnie, biscuit, apple, yogurt, crisps and a drink of water.
We had a pleasant night last night round BIL and got treated to a lovely Indian take-away. Tried a few different dishes that I hadnt had before and enjoyed them:D
Arrived home last night to an E-mail from the President of the PA and Dr V (Headmaster) asking if I would be interested in taking over as Chief Treasurer:eek:   ......does anyone know exactly what this will involveI'll email her and ask anyway.
Today after hospital we have to pick up some light coloured paint for the toilet as the dark red makes the loo look too small and dark. OH will be taking down the other wardrobe too. Need to find a couple of bedside cabinets for our lamps and books:rolleyes:
Breakie: Toast & Jam
Lunch: Baked Spud, ham and salad
Dinner: HM Fish pie and veg
Hugs to all.
