  • Just wondering how they work it out.

Is the temperature taken as an average over 24 hours?

It might drop to say, minus 10 over night then rise to say plus 5 during daylight hours.

I wondered that as well.According to the weather for Sheffield the next weeks night time temperatures will be below freezing but the day time will be just above.

The Department for Work and Pensions has been notified that there have been 4 periods of very cold weather in the BD8 postcode area between 1 November 2012 and the current date 22 March 2013.
If you qualify for payment and live in this postcode area you are due to receive 4 Cold Weather Payment (s).
Payments are not made immediately. You should receive the payment to your account within 14 working days of the very cold weather incident being identified.
If you have any other questions about Cold Weather Payments, including delays in receipt of payments, contact your pension centre or Jobcentre Plus.

The Cold Weather Payments scheme for 2012/13 ends on Sunday (31/03/13) so unless any one particular area in the UK is already in a period of cold weather (a daily average of 0c or below for seven consecutive days) then no further payments can be made.

I'd imagine there will be a few triggers by Sunday night, mainly for the north west of the country.

I'm hoping my area will trigger again before sunday. Daytime temp has been -4 C for almost a week now.

I've not had the heating off for 5 days. It's costing me £3.50 a day for gas alone, which the £25 will just about cover.

The snow is back in full force again, this morning, although the wind, thank gawd, has dropped.
