What's the point in indicating if the only creatures present to see it have no clue what it means? If you can prove to me that birds, cattle, sheep, rabbits etc understand indicator use I'll start using it all the time. In the mean time I'll continue to indicate when other vehicles/pedestrians are present but not when I'm on my own in the middle of no where. And trust me, there are places in rural Aberdeenshire where no one can hear you scream ;)

Again another poor excuse for sheer laziness I cannot believe you can justify this to yourself in this way, I suppose the same could apply to tax and insurance and MOT as far as you are concerned because there is nobody around thats OK then?

I don't get it.... Why moan at us folk for not indicating? As we've said, indicating when nobody is around just isnt necessary, this mean's you'll never see us fail to indicate!!

I can't believe you don't get the point. I also can't believe you've extrapolated my argument to include things as important as tax, insurance and MOT (when required ;)). However to continue your extrapolation.

MOTS are only required on cars over 3 years old. The reason we have them is to ensure cars are roadworthy. You would not take a 2-year old car for an MOT because it's not required and a service will do. You are able to work this out for yourself because you can apply logical thought Some of us apply this logic stuff to our driving. If there is no one there to benefit from indicating our intentions what is the point in doing so. And remember I'm not talking about built up areas, I'm talking about rural Scotland where you can easily drive 10 miles without seeing anyone.

Do you get it now? Those of us who don't always indicate aren't doing so because we're lazy or can't be bothered. We think about what we're doing, come to a conclusion and act on it. Whereas it appears you do things out of habit and possible without forethought. To be honest the idea of you in a car scares me a lot.

Another one who thinks they have a valid justification for not using their indicators, the fact you thought about it and decided not to use them causes me a great deal of concern.

As said already in this thread I will have to agree to disagree with you, I too live in a very rural area in South Wales, I too can travel 10 miles or more and not see another living human being, I still use my indicators why? Because you are supposed to!!!!

NOWHERE in the highway code does it say "only use your indicators if there are other motorists around" so the fact you can take something as important as the highway code and then re-write it in your own mind then go on to try and justify the decision you alone has made does indeed cause me a great deal of concern, as I said before this is the exact reason why I think there should be mandatory driving tests every 10 years, there are lots and lots of people out there who "think" they know better than what is written that quite frankly should not have a license in the fist place.

And so far as you being concerned about my driving I am not the one that interperates the highway code in my own train of though, I am the driver that follows the written rules in the highway code and does not try and justify why I should not, and out of nearly 15 years of driving I have NEVER had an accident hat was my fault as in EVER, no points on my license nothing whatsoever can you say the same? Truthfully??

  • It should be habit, you were taught it when you were learning to drive at no time did they driving instructor tell you that you could then go away and interprate for yourself as to wether or not you need to use them, at least my driving instructor did not...........................

My instructor (early 90's) taught me to only indicate if someone was there to benefit from it.
I dont know what professional qualifications he had, or if he'd sat any advanced courses, I assumed his "regular" job driving fire engines for a living and the fact he was a driving instructor was enough.

Yes and by more years than you.

We will have to agree to disagree.

No don't get me started either as this is a real bugbear of mine too, one explanation I got once is that they're 'driving lights'

Also people that sit for ages in cues of traffic with there brake lights on at night:mad:

Driving lights by definition only can be switched on with full beam, so they're simply wrong.

The people with the brake lights on in the queues are probably driving automatics.

So in conclusion, you are saying you will *never* fail to spot a car?

No, what I am saying is there are situations where it is possible to clearly see there is no other traffic. It's a nice view too :)
