I'm in the signal everytime camp too. It's a very short road from the "only signal when neccessary" camp to the "I can't be arsed" one.;);)

How I wish it was only BMW drivers who guilty.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Just because you think no-one can see you, doesn't mean there isn't someone just outside of your eye-line or in your blind spot who can see you and makes a decision based on your lack of signalling

So as a rule you should always use your indicators even if you think no-one can see you.

My niece in the Leicestershire force has a name for people like you - "The Accused".

This is utter nonsense. A driver who pays attention and observes fully his surroundings will not have to worry about "someone just outside of your eye-line or in your blind spot", because such a person will not exist.

Indicators are for indicating intent to those who might benefit from the signal. If there's no-one there to benefit, you don't indicate.

If you think it is bad here you should try living in the US. I am convinced that a high proportion of drivers there don't even realise that their car is fitted with indicators (turn signals as they call them).
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

I never trust what people are indicating.
That's a very good approach and one which, as a biker, I adopted a long time ago for my own safety.

  • I cannot believe my eyes! There are people on this thread who by any standard would be deemed as being sensible logical people right now right here they are trying to justify why they dont use their indicators!! Unbelievable!!!!

If you were taking your practical driving test and failed to use your indicators what do you think would happen? Indeed why do cars have indicators at all? Let me guess you lot no so much better than car manufacturer's, department of transport, highways and byways and they are there on your car as an optional extra! Are the windscreen wipers and the handbrake also an optional extra??

Come on people wakey wakey you are all supposed to be responsible adults how can you even try and justify not using indicators! It come down to one thing and one thing only LAZINESS!

Crikey, I cannot believe what I am reading some of you are either trolling or are you really trying to justify being that lazy you cannot be arsed using them???

As you can tell this is one of my biggest pet hates, I followed a motorist in a brand new Mercedes a few weeks ago to let him know his indicators were not working lol the look on his face...................

At the end of the day they are not only a safety feature for you but also for other motorists and pedestrians, there is no excuse for not using AT ALL, wether you are driving in the middle of nowhere or not it should be habit!!!!!

I am not aware if it is legal or not, just had a quick google and to my surprise nothing obvious came up to tell me if you could get points for not using them correctly or not anyone know? If not again it is unbelievable really you should be given a fixed penalty the usual 3 points etc etc as far as I am concerned it is a big safety no no.

Where I live in rural Wales the "country" attitude reigns supreme, hardly anyone uses them on the rural roads and this simply then carries on to the main roads especially on roundabouts, if I were a traffic cop (not something I would usually EVER aspire to be ;) ) and it was illegal I could issue hundreds of tickets every day easily sat on any roundabout in our main town it winds me up no end it really does!

OK rant over, if you have one of those selfish me me me attitudes then fine dont think about the safety of other motorists and pedestrians at least think about the safety of yourself and your passengers its hardly a labor intensive exercise using them is it? There really is no excuse and as said before the more worrying part is that it "should" be habit for any driver not optional...........

I'll tell you what to do. Stop the next police driver or rider you see and tell them what you think of them. Police generally don't signal to move from lane 3 to 2, or lane 2 to 1. Nor do they signal to overtake another moving vehicle on a single carriageway road. It's not laziness, it's appropriate use giving information to those who would find it useful. Get over yourself and take notice of some of the common sense and correct information being written in this thread.
