Sometimes they drown. Babies fall over. Teens DO go homeless. "Living" in a hostel is no life. And why should the "authorities" pay to house you because you and your parents can't get along?

Whereas I see your point have you ever been a youth worker or had a misunderstood teenager?

To what extent - where it's detrimental to the other children in the house? Kids having sex in the loos? Drug issues? When you get to the point where you've tried everything?

I haven't had or got a troublesome teen. I work with teens, including troubled ones. I can't really answer you, except as a parent, and I just can not envisage throwing my son out, what ever he'd done, knowing he had nowhere to go, because whatever he'd done, having nowhere to live and no support, surely things could only get worse.

  • Personally I'm not going to judge anyone. I think that being a parent is the hardest job in the world (I'm a teacher). Nobody can ever really know what it's like in somebody else's home or know how their children really behave at home with their parents. Sometimes situations happen that you never imagined would happen and you have to deal with them in the best way that you can at the time.
We bring our children up to the best of our ability, show them all the love and care in the world, but that only goes so far. At some point a child turns into an adult and although we still love them and care for them we don't agree with their behaviour and do not/ should not have to put up with it. We are all human and can only take so much. I am sure that the op did not take this decision lightly.
