Hello everyone, I need to try and do some damage control before christmas again! We are planning to go to Australia early march for a couple of weeks, and I would like to lose a couple of stone before then, but how possible that is with Christmas coming up I don't know, with all these christmas lunches for work with set menus etc, I'm just going to have to eat slow so I end up eating a lot less and then stick to free foods the rest of those days. I will I will I will.

    Yesterday was:

Apricot Wheats (B) Semi Skim Milk (A)
    Apple
    Satsuma
    SW quiche, Mixed Veg
Peppers Stuffed with Veggie Chilli Con Carne with low low cheese (a) and 1/2 pack of tilda sundried tomato rice which I believe works out as 1.5-2 syns. Fat free Nat yog.
    Activia F.F
    Curly Wurly (6?)
    1 alpen light (1/2 b)

Today has been an apple and a cup of tea so far, about to have some bean quiche with veg. Think I'll have the left over quorn chilli with a jacket spud and some roast carrots and parsnips tonight. I do green days mostly as I rarely eat meat.

I make cornedbeef hash by :-
    • potatoes,
    • carrot,
    • swede,
    • parsnips
    • onions
    • 340g tin cornedbeef (8.5syn lean OR 10syn standard)
    • marrowfats
    1. peel all the veg and cut into various sized chunks
    2. throw them in a huge pan and add water(about 3/4 way up pan)
    3. put the lid on and cook until everything is tender -then bail out some of the liquid if there is too much don't want it too sloppy (keep it in a jug though in case you want to add more later ;) )...
    4. add corned beef (cut into chunks)and marrowfats and leave to carry on cooking with the lid part off so the liquid reduces down.
Its always nicer made the day before you want it.. it will thicken up as it stands too. I save the liquid as when you get down to the bottom of the pan and most have the lumps have gone you can add the liquid and blitz to make a broth :p

Now then I have put the syns for the cornedbeef as though it for EE -BUT I have mine on a green day so the cornedbeef will be 34syn for lean or 37.5syns standard, but I get at least 6 good servings from my big pan full -so it works out better value to pay 5.5-6.5 syns per serving and gain an extra heA+B ;)

Hope that makes sense.. tis real stick to the ribs winter food (especially slapped in a home made yorkyshire pud :rotfl:) -give me a yell if your not sure of anything...

    Afternoon all,

Crikey, it's so flipping freezing isn't it? I recorded -9* this morning, and we still have no heating! Good news is that the heating engineer is finally here, and has ripped the old boiler out, and is fitting a new boiler in. The bad news is that it's going to take 2 days to do it, the house if filled with smoke fumes from his blow torch & brick dust, and he's knocked holes in the walls, so the cold air is getting in, and I can't get to use anything in the kitchen to make food!

I was getting really hungry, and heard him go out to his van for something, so I dashed into the kitchen, got to the fridge (everything else is covered in dust, muck or dust sheets) and grabbed a couple of tupperwares out of there, and an Activia snackpot. Fortunately we'd moved the microwave out of his way from the worktop, so I put that on a sofa in the dining room, and whizzed a pot of Saturday's leftover pasta. I also had a couple of slices of left over roast beef, so I'm not hungry now. It's getting into a pickle like that where you can sabotage all your efforts. I posted on my facebook page for ideas, and suggestions of 'go to the chippy' weren't exactly what I was after! I must admit when I 1st went into the kitchen to grab something to eat, I looked straight at the bread bin, which is my old friend for filling me up, and the main reason I'm desperate to lose weight. I can't even see my slow cooker which has my dyno rod soup in it.

    Food today: EE

    HEA - 250ml milk
B - porridge (HEB), banana, strawberries
L - pasta bake (2 syns) with peppers, courgettes, onion, tomatoes, sliced beef
    D - Dyno rod soup

It was WI last night and I was disappointed to get a maintain. I don't feel like I've been anything but on plan, but the only thing I can think is that maybe I have to reduce my portion sizes? When I'm having my bacon & eggs for lunch I'm having 2 eggs, 2 slices bacon, large portion of beans & mushrooms. Does that sound like too much to you guys? Are you eating large portions still, or are you limiting your meal sizes?
My son gained 0.5lb, but he says he did have pizza and sausage rolls when he stayed at a friend's last w/end, so we can understand that I guess. I'm at the tail end of my * week, so don't even think that can impact on my WI. I'm thinking go for lots of superspeeds this week, and see if it works. I aim to get to the gym 3 times too, as I only got to go once last week.

Lisa, where do you work? Surely you can't work somewhere that the toilets aren't functioning, and the tap water can't be used? That sounds awful.

DKAM - glad to hear you're back on it! I'm considering making h/m burgers in the near future, but let me know how the meatballs go.
One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

I don't really want to get into the debate, as I do agree with the majority of the SW 'rules' however I can also see why Woot may be riled at the fact that he seems to have been jumped on regarding this chickpea cake....We see posts on here all the time about making syn free pizza, syn free cheesecake, syn free meringue syn free pudding rice, surely these aren't encouraging members to eat a healthy meat and two veg diet, are they?

If someone HAS to have a bit of cake, then, I imagine, it is better to have a modified, healthier version than one full of butter and sugar! Like I say, I don't actually make things like this (although maybe I should start as it would stop me raiding the biscuits;)) I just wanted to point out that other similar posters don't seem to get as much grief as Woot seems to have attracted:cool:

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It's not.
  • Hi again!

Well I've had my tesco Light Choices veggie couscous pot (near the pot noodles in store), and it was ok actually! Filling enough and warming, so I might keep an emergency stock in my desk drawer!

I think I'm fancying a tomatoey pasta bake tonight with quorn sausages, or maybe my favourite butternut squash and chilli risotto. Mmmmm!

I work on a big steel plant, it's a 24 hour process that can't really be stopped so we just have to keep going!!! Apparently its expected to get above freezing on Thurs so hopefully things will start to defrost a bit then! Apparently the offices where my OH works still has running water but it's a 10-15 min walk through the plant and then across a load of ice so I'm avoiding it if I can!!! It really is terrible here though, I live in a nearly new house and there was frost on the INSIDE of the windows (double glazing) this morning despite having had the heating on for several hours last night and an hour this morning :eek:. We spend most of our time at OH's house now which is much further away from work but we try to use mine when its bad weather. My house is about 2 miles from our work carpark, I made OH leave early this morning so we had 40 mins to get here....it actually took 70mins , not much less than it took us to do over 30 miles the day before travelling from an area with much more snow!!!!

You're absolutely right, but I don't exactly help myself. I shouldn't have expected any different from Consultant, and I still don't. With respect to her, she does a good thing for people and I have to doff my cap to her. It's not easy to be responsible for the weight loss of others, but it seems as though I want more information than she either knows or is willing to provide reasonably. Hence why I think it's best that she ignores me here, and I will instead talk to my consultant in group that welcomes discussion and can provide an answer that doesn't essentially resort to jiggling my belly and cooing '"you'd like some more cake, wouldn't you fatty".

I have no problem admitting that I feel as though parts of the plan are unnecessary and potentially detrimental, and also qualifying myself with my own experience and nutritional knowledge. Bringing up these beliefs is all well and good until you meet someone that is paid to ignore them...

For the record - I also agree with the majority of the rules. A third of superfree is a great plan to follow, and the syn restriction does help to maintain balance.

But I agree with you, it's the whole ethos of the plan - you can eat whatever you like, but for some reason when that comes to a chickpea all the rules change :rotfl:

I do get the same hostility in group too - being an outspoken male that has lost what I have lost, seems to invite negativity. Heaven forbid I might try and understand more about the fundamentals of a plan that I'm paying for ;)

Thank you redmel, I completely agree with you. I don't really want to get into the debate either as I had decided I would stop posting and just lurk on the thread for tips. A friend recommended I look at this thread but now I think I realise why she just lurks and never posts.

As a person I am naturally curious and open to learning new things. I'm also fairly new to SW and so had lots of questions. Being a fairly chatty person I'm also not slow to give my opinion (although I hope always politely). My impression of the thread has been that there is a core of posters who are so dedicated to SW that they took any comments that questioned the philosophy behind SW as a personal affront on the consultant and SW in general, closed ranks and suggested that raising debate was threatening to spoil the happy, cosy thread.

I won't apologise for thinking and questioning, I believe that's healthy. I can apologise if I have offended anyone by rocking the boat. Back to lurkdom.....

You phrased it in one paragraph better than I've managed to do in twenty. :T
