Slimming World - a Christmas countdown!

My point is that you still haven't explained to me exactly why a chickpea cake would need to be synnedIf anything, that's why coming off the plan completely and leaving SW may well lead to weight gain - because people have never been aware of their calorific requirement because Slimming World have never told them.
that is why chickpea cake is synned - they are teaching people that it's not ok to eat cake, any cake, all day long under the impression that is fine/'free', so that when you reach target weight you dont revert back to old habits, you have learnt new ones - ie. cake = bad, veg=good
Making a 'free' cake underminds the underpinning lesson, which is to improve your diet with veg, lean meat and carbs, not cheat to get away with eating as much cake as you can.
Just my two cents.Betty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....

That's fine in concept, but when Slimming World's own site is filled with receipes for desserts, low syn value cakes, and they make a fortune by selling us recipe books with these in them, I find the hypocrisy rather overwhelming. I don't think anybody on the planet thinks that eating cake is a viable method of losing weight, and every single person here knows that veg, lean meats and a healthy ratio of fat, carbohydrate and protein are key to not only losing weight but being healthier. The only difference is the willpower that people have - and this is where I disagree with you in the nutritional lesson that we're being taught.
Plans such as Slimming World are specifically designed to teach you that you still can eat cake, desserts, creams and chocolate whilst losing weight. You may remember me saying that I very rarely syn, I certainly don't use my daily syns and feel much more comfortable using no syns than using 15 - I already know that there are healthy and unhealthy ways of losing weight, and I don't want to lose weight whilst eating, essentially, junk. Syns are there for those that don't have self control, in my opinion. If I binge, I go for it and of course I regret it afterwards since it won't help me lose fat - but I don't subscribe to the theory that we need to syn in order to lose.
Whilst we are on the subject of healthy vs unhealthy weight loss, why is it never explained during the talk of 'Body Magic' (another buzz phrase I hate) the difference between catabolism and anabolism? Why is it never indicated that a calorific defecit combined with cardiovascular excersise will cause muscle loss? Why is it never indicated that sometimes losing weight is a bad thing if it's not the correct tissue that's being lost? The reason is that Slimming World know that if our scales go down, we stump up our £5 next week. In theory it's great, people lose weight, feel great and can drop quite rapidly bringing some very good success, but then wonder why they have bingo wings and saggy tits.
Slimming World IS a tremendous way to assist people in losing weight, but they will never, ever be able to keep it off and/or be happy with their final shape until they realise the fundamentals of why they were overweight in the first place and exactly why they were able to lose that weight. Everyone can lose weight, it's not hard to do as long as they know why, and what they need to do. It's this area in which I really think Slimming World needs to be more transparent and provide us with the information as and when we ask for it, instead of trying to brush it under the carpet, accuse us of tampering with the system, infer that we have no willpower and cannot be trusted, and hiding behind arbitrary values.
Like I said, you could stick to the plan 100%, take in your third of superfree, and not go over your syns, and gain a lot of weight. It's simple maths, there's no formula. Free foods and syns just make it easier to keep track of, which I've never denied.Whatever doesn't kill me, can only make me stronger.

Hi all,
I'm just checking out some stuff online to see what I fancy for lunch (in the office at the mo). I notice tesco has Innocent Tasty Veg Pot Moroccan Giant Couscous, Roasted Butternut Squash & Fresh Coriander (380g) on offer at £1.74 half price.
Has anyone tried it? Is it nice, and how is it on the syns front?
I've also noticed the Tesco Light Choices Roasted Vegetable Cous Cous (60g). Any chance this is free?!
If anyone has any ideas for a nice hot satisfying working lunch please let me know. I have a Tesco, Lidl and Netto nearby, and access to hot water!!
...Thinking mug shots if nothing else!
Thanks0 -

Good afternoon everyone... from a very chilly me ... we have had no more snow over night, but everywhere has frozen up...not nice at all
Well done to those with losses again :T
I have decided that Im having another red day, we plan on nipping out for yet more fruit/veg/milk when hubby gets home from work, I have made the dinner so I can just flick it on to cook through whilst we are gone, whilst I was at it I have made a huge vat of cornedbeef hash that is still ticking over -means it can stand over night (always tastes better that way
) -it will do tomorrow nights dinner and at least 4 lunches for hubby ...its gets better as it stands...
So then my day should look like this:-- 250ml semi (A)
- sweety
- orange
- salmon fillet
- gherkin
- tomato
- pineapple
- apple
- cheesey beef n potato layer (A+B+1.5) :-
- extra lean mince
- onions
- peppers
- carrot
- garlic
- mushrooms
- herbs
- passata
- potatoes
- cheese sauce
- fibre plus bar (B)
- activia (2.5)
- clementines
oohhhh ladies n gents -the sweet n sour last night was NOMNOMNOM , I have made 1 before from a SW book and it was ok but "not quite right" well last nights was much better... I did pork but said to hubby that next time I was just doing veggies for me as they were so scrummy and hubby said that he would have that too...so here is the recipe just in case anyone wants to give it a whirl...
sweet n sour:-
serves 4
4.5syns per serving- 125ml vinegar- (rice/white)-I used white wine vinegar
- 50g sugar (10)
- 2tbs ketchup (2)
- 1tbs soy sauce
- Simply mix them all together
Sorry if thats a bit rambly - if you need anything clarifying just give me a yell. I only used half the sauce so the other half of it is on a pot in the fridge and I will do sweet n sour veggies later this week,
right I will get off for now..have a lovely day everyone....
*scuttles off to find cornedbeef hash post I forgot to add yesterday*

Thanks Clare, that's good news! :T0 -
Hi all, it sooooooooooooo cold here today! The lowest temp in my car this morning was -14.5° but lots of people locally were reporting -18°!!! Everything is getting frozen up at work and we now only have 2 of our 5 machines working. We also have no domestic water so we can't flush toilets/wash hands/wash pots!!!! Its a nightmare! I daren't have a drink as the toilets are now a bit yukky!!!
Hoping to get to the supermarket tonight so should be following the plan properly from tomorrow! Going green today I think:
Brekkie - porridge (HEA&B), banana
Lunch - confused soup, melba toast (?syns), 2 laughing cow (part HEA)
Tea - breaded fish (HEB+ syns), sw chips, mushy peas.0 -
Afternoon everyone.
Hope you are all having a good day so far.
It's a bit of a non day for me today, just veggie soup so far and just about to have another bowl. I'll russle something 'proper' for dinner as just having soup all day is rather dull no matter how nice it tastes... plus I'll be less likely to fall off the wagon.
So not much to report so far just thought I'd catch up with the chatter and say hello... so "People buy things they don't need, with money they don't have, to impress people they don't like" - Clive Hamilton on Consumerism.0
