I think Diable would agree with me when I say that since WW II, and being under Russian control, the Polish had no fall-back in state benefits. They either worked or starved. This mentality has passed down through 3 generations. In the same time-frame, we saw the introduction of the NHS & state benefits, so no work means Govt. support.
It is worth noting that non-UK citizens from the EU are not entitled to benefits such as WTC/CTC, so with WTC on top of my earnings, I in effect, earn £2 p/hr more than the Polish guys working beside me.Never Knowingly Understood.

My Uncle was a Pilot in 305 Squadron during the WWII was welcomed with open arms and flew countless missions to help England win the war, after the war they didn't want him here or allow him to do a proper job and he ended up washing dishes in a restaurant in Stoke in the end he emigrated to the US.
My father who was in the Navy, Africa Star, Italy Star and Atlantic Star was also given a hard time after the war and ended up on a Panamanian travel document and was only naturalised in 1971.
Not really a rant just venting at how people in this country complain and moan.
I agree the Poles had a lousy deal after the war. The free Poles did an amazing job in the battle of Britain and 303 Squadron had the highest number of kills of all the squadrons
After the war in the VE day celebrations of all the countries that took part the Poles were the only ones not invited to march so as not to upset Stalin."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Strange how this thread has gone off at a tangent.
In an attempt to bring it back on topic....
Possibly the reason there were so many migrant jobs is more to do with Labour policy in that the like to tax the rich and put in place barriers for entrepreneurs and business people and basically drive the wealth generation abroad whilst creating a nanny state for those that are left with great numbers of British people better off not working but claiming benefits. With so many part time and low paid jobs that came with that, its no wonder that migrants took those jobs.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). As the Russians fought on our side, I really can't think why Stalin would have been offended.Never Knowingly Understood.

Give immigrants some of the jobs currently occupied by our MPs. 10% of the jobs to start with. I'm sure well educated immigrants would do it for 20-30% less salary.
It might just bring the issue home to our beloved honourable servants., what it feels like to be outpriced.0 -

These jobs must have been done of course. Most probably by hard working older generation?Who knows..
Maybe today's young people want easier jobs..Best wins ever:

2015: 8 night holiday to Thailand0 -

There may be one or two snaglets to that idea - firstly, MPs are elected, not appointed. Secondly, a candidate to become a Member of Parliament must be a British or Irish or Commonwealth citizen, which excludes most economic migrants of the origins that appear to be being discussed here.0
