Migrants took 9 out of 10 jobs created under Labour

Nearly nine out of ten jobs created under Labour went to foreign-born workers, astonishing figures revealed last night.

Official statistics showed the vast majority of the rise in the employment total under the last Government was accounted for by workers born abroad.

Total numbers of those in work went up by two million during 13 years of Labour. But of those jobs, 1.8 million individuals were classed as ‘non-UK born’. Just a quarter of a million declared themselves to be born in the UK.

Sir Andrew Green, chairman of the Migrationwatch think-tank, said: ‘This is stunning evidence of the need to cut back on the immigration of foreign workers. ‘As long as foreign skills can be obtained “off the shelf”, employers will have no incentive to train British workers.’

And let's not forget then even so-called 'skilled' immigrants are doing menial tasks. "Tier 1" of the UK Points Based System is aimed at highly-skilled workers such as doctors and engineers. The UKBA report states that 29% of Tier 1 Visa holders are in unskilled jobs such as shop assistants, security guards and supermarket cashiers.

FACT - Only in barmy, broken Britain would we throw open the floodgates and allow EE engineers to be on the check-out in Lidl's while 8,000,000+ Brits of working age are paid to be idle and breed stinking ferals who infest their sink estates.

"Workers born aboard" is a meaningless statement as it doesn't distinguish between those who came in on working visas from those who for example who were educated in the UK system and those born aboard to British parents.

Lots of companies have been acting that way since the last Tory government. Why train someone as they will leave or in the case of women get pregnant? You may as well demand that someone has exact skills before employing them.

That what annoys me. If you come here as a non-EU migrant EE or doctor you should be thrown out of the country after 6 months if you are not working in the field you got entry on.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

Better still dont let them in, i'm not scared of the R word
  • why hasn't this turned into a bash the Daily Mail thread yet, or can anyone dispute these findings ? after all, their articles are all fantasy

I've worked with and know people who came on the highly skilled migrant visas.

They worked in professions they were trained for i.e. builders, nurses, teachers, engineers, accountants, IT staff and doctors.

So I have no problem letting them in but I do have a problem if they aren't working in the profession they are trained in.

BTW A lot of them disappear within 3/4 years unless they get married to a British citizen. And those that are conned into coming here on cheaper wages quite quickly decide either to change employer to get an equivalent UK salary or to leave the UK.

Interesting statement, does that mean it is all the Tories fault ?

Must admit I'm dubious about that report after all it was only in 2007 that Gordon Brown assured us that he was creating British jobs for British workers.....:D

  • You could equally say British workers didn't want 9 out 10 jobs created under Labour.

Or, 9 out of 10 jobs created under Labour were so poorly paid that only migrants would do them. There isnt enough substance to this story. Its well known Labour did their best to create a low wage economy supported by huge numbers of immigrants, and tried to keep their core voters pacified by paying them benefits in compensation.

The first link reports from the daily mail about non-UK born workers, which includes the EU

the second link points to this report
    http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/documents/aboutus/pbs-tier-1.pdf
Just want to point out that 1,184 records were analysed from dependent applicants of those already present in this country.

I'm surprised so many of them take on such unskilled jobs.
  • Read the Mail article and comments below the article, this one is quite interesting:
"I run a company sub contracted to TFL we supply staff for night time maintenance on the London Underground, our teams clean, check and undertake repair work in the Underground tunnels throughout the Greater London area, more pertinently we pay 4 times the national average wage recognizing that our work is difficult, dirty, sometimes dangerous and with unsocial hours, a laborer working for us can take home up to £5000 per month with overtime, despite our best efforts we have been unable to find a single english person who is prepared to do such work, consequently we have been forced further afield and have over 160 polish staff, 90 Romanian, 62 Czech and 9 Lithuanians, during interviews I conducted english applicants complained about getting up early and all failed drug tests for cannabis and cocaine- the nature of our work means we drug test all employees-until we find english workers we will continue to employ foreigners, they work hard, never complain, and are always sober."
