Just read some of the postings concerning issues with the Netgear Voip box. I had one of these on sipgate ages ago .... caused so much grief with attempted re-flashes of the memory, if would fail to ring, would constantly go-offline etc .... the logfile showed is was offline more than it was on! sigate and netgear support couldnt resolve the issue.

I ended up taking it back for a refund. Thankfully I the bought a PAP2 (vonage branded), unlocked it and configured it (well actually 2 of them .... configured on my telewest 10mb line) works perfectly - with sipdiscount on one line and sipgate on the others !!

Are these "PAP2 (vonage branded)", the black ones currently at Comet or are they the Linksys PAP ones from a while back?

The PAP2's I have were in Comet a while back - silver with a blue label on the side.

I've lost the link but even the new ones can be unlocked.

Yes they can - but a word of warning to anyone buying a vonarge one (or considering a secondhand one), do not allow it to be connected to a live internet/broadband connection (even for one moment) - once done the unit "registers" it'self - and it's locked to Vonage forever !!!! - never to be unlocked again !!

I think the thread on unlocking can be found under telecoms/phones - try a search on comet and PAP2 ....

    Good luck !

Not happening here and I am using the exact same phone as you.
I am also using the same phone without problem.

By the way: I have one handset which has lost its registration to the base station. If you still have he manual, could you please tell me what I need to key on the handset to re-register it?

    Register new handset to baseunit

press and hold handset locator button until hear slow 'beeps' (gives 30 seconds to register)

On handset press prog, 1, 6, followed by base unit number, if first press 1,

then key in 0000 and press the call button

The display will show handset numbers free, you can optionally select one but if you don't the lowest free one will automatically be selected

    To de-register

prog 2, 6 and press number of the handset to de-register. The display flashes and the handset is de-registered.

Please do not help this poster any further - he appears to be a fanatical extremist who has posted offensive and grossly insulting comments in another MSE Forum (now reported.)

Which made me look - if you're referring to the "penpals" thread then thats been dealt with hasn't it? Otherwise I fail to see any offence caused by this person in this thread.

Isn't it true that we each hold at least one belief or opinion that another would reject? I'm sure if the poster's conduct was universally poor then MSE would take appropriate action.

True - and it has now been dealt with thankfully and removed, as it was very upsetting to all those involved with that thread.

On your point above - sure, but most of us have the maturity to realise that it is better to keep such opinions to opurselves especially on a public forum where we are all meant to help each other.

On the final point - yes again, if the same poster repeats more of the same nasty vitriol, I am sure many of us would want to see him removed from the site.
