You need ports open in the firewall to get it to work unfortuantely, So im doubtful you will get it running in the uni, Unless there tech deperatment will open up the ports for you
Unless the ports are actively blocked, enabling STUN may help.

not always the case depends on the network setup

I was talking about the same problem as you in my post above about just getting a hissing sound. You need to go back to sipgate.co.uk/netgear AFTER you register the first time and type in your login & password, it will ask you for the mac number from the bottom of your netgear and then it will download some data. You have to then unplug your Netgear and then power it up again. Then your phone 1 should start flashing orange. You then shut everything down again and power up your modem connection, then power up your Netgear and then your computer and then you will see that the phone 1 will start flashing green. This took 2 days to do so if it looks like it is not working be patient as sipgate are a bit slow it seems!

    Does anyone know if:

    1) it is possible to use another voip provider like voipcheap for outgoing whilst simultaneously being able to receive incoming calls via sipgate like you can do on the Linksys PAP2 ???

    2) How do I open ports on Netgear VOIP to allow torrent/emule/kazaa ...is it port forwarding or port triggering???

No I'm not at Nottingham and I'm using other voip services through softphone without problem. Do you think a firewall might be an issue? Well, I'd like to try enabling STUN but how can I do it? The setup page on 192.168.61.1 does not have anything like STUN listed.

Saeed, I do have similar settings as yours and tried registering, turning on and off several times to no success. I wish somehow the device suddenly turned green :)

Does anyone know if I could get this to work with voipdiscount/buster and how do I set this up? I particularly wanted this to make outgoing calls through it. If not, I probably will return the device and get the cheap Trusted one instead...

    Thanks very much everyone.

https://www.sipgate.co.uk/netgear - select "open firmware" link on the right and follow instructions, do not turn off the unit until lights stop flashing (about 5 or more minutes)

You can use whatever SIP based network you like after doing what I mention above. Only problem is you can only use one network (even though there is 2 phone sockets). If using both both must be on the same network (i.e. only using different usernames and passwords.)

I have a Binatone DECT e3300 plugged inot the Netgear voip router mentioned in this thread and every so often the phone rings for about 2 seconds when no one is actually calling me. This happens 3 times a day on avergae and even with a normal corded phone as well. Anyone else getting this ???

Cheers....maybe I have a faulty RJ11 adaptor, or so the sipgate support think. Will see what happens after I swap it for another adaptor. hoping to get rid of the telewest landline, but at this rate, I rather keep it as the phone rings at 2am sometimes!!
