I think the point was complicated behind another router?

'daisy chain' the boxes, so you have

modem ---> netgear ta612v ---> wireless router ---> PC etc

then you need to physically unplug all boxes, the order i turned them on to get them working was

    1. netgear ta 612v
    2. wireless router
    3. cable modem - wait till all but bottom lights are on [no activity]

    i hope this helps!

[edit] i can see that this is different to the schematic above, it's in the instructions that the ta612v should be directly facing the cable / dsl modem.

if it's not, it will work, but you won't get QoS - meaning that your call quality will go down the toilet if you start to download / upload / use your connection, because your TA612v will get the 'leftovers'

Yes I missed this point out. Not much of a problem if you hardly use any bandwidth however.

I'm using mine behind a Netgear DG834GT ADSL wireless modem/router and connected in this order:

    wireless modem/router ---> netgear ta612v ---> PC

After configuration, I disconnected the PC from the netgear ta612v.
  • Phones Slough today and was told that they had one TA612V in stock. I reserved this and went to collect. Once I got there, there was another sitting on the shelf - so I got them both. No sign of any IP cameras though.

The Linksys Wireless IP Cameras are also going through at £19.91 and not £39.91 as was on the shelf. This is a massive bargain as it got very good reviews when it was £150!!

For anyone who doen't know this a web camera that doesn't need to be connected to a PC. It connects via wireless to the internet and you can view a live feed from anywhere in the world (does need internet explorer though!)

For a subscription of £5 a month it can also email/MMS you a video or still image of any movement it detects. Handy if someone is burgarying your house when you are away as a video of the theif will have already been sent to your email address/MMS before the thief sees the camera!

Has anybody else managed to find these anywhere? I've just been into the Bedford store but they are out there. If anybody sees some near the Bedford area or Thurrock/Beckton stores please let me know. Or if someone wouldn't mind send them out that would be fantastic.

I'm under orders from mum to get a webcam so she can see her new grandson (we live 70 odd miles away) and a wireless cam fits the bill perfectly.

    Cheers,
    Chris

In my local Staples store (Bristol) had the Trust St-1200, Internet Phone Station for £9.99. Allows a standard telephone to be connected through USB and normal line at the same time. Think the normal price on this is £39.99. Most places selling them above £30.

    See http://www.trust.com/products/product.aspx?artnr=14485

Think it may be a misprice as came up as a Skype phone on the receipt.

There !!!!!! to be honest ! and its made for skype or a software phone much better paying the extra 10 quid and getting an ethernet based soloution

That's the whole point, when using with a software phone it allows an existing landline and software phone to co-exist.

I already have an ethernet based VOIP system as I picked up a couple of the Netgear TA612V's. I've got one at home and the other at my office and it allows communication between the 2 without tying up our main lines with the benefit of adding extra lines for little cost for other call. The 555 free minutes was also a nice touch.

The Skype connection is used by my daughter and I find the sound quality is better using this device with a conventional phone than the previous USB phone she had. Skype currently doing an offer of £10 for six months calls to any 01 or 02 numbers for 6 months.

Let's face it, she's got to have a means to talk to her friends when they're not on messenger!

I am having problems with the Netgear VOIP. Anyone technically minded help me out?

The connections are modem > Netgear VOIP > Computer
I have registered on the sipgate site, and they gave me a number, but there is no dial tone when I pick up the phone which is connected to line 1. When I go into the router (by going to http://192.168.61.1) I get the following:-

    LAN Port
MAC Address 00:0F:B5:13:XX:XX (last 4 figures deleted)

    Line 1
    Display Name UNAVAILABLE
    Telephone Number phonenumber
    Line 1 Status
    Hook State: ON
    Registration State: Idle
    Message Waiting: NO

I think the above indicates that I am not on Voip. Anyone know if sipgate take a while to set up the VOIP as I registered 3 hrs ago, or should it be up and running and is there something wrong with my connection???
  • I bought 2 adaptors yesterday from my local Staples and they were the last two available. One of them was returned item which I was unable to register under my account (useless) and the other one was brand new but faulty. I guess I have no luck  . I will return them today and see if they can order some from other stores.

Saeed: you have to register your adaptor's MAC address with Sipgate in order to use it.
