Amazon have sent me an email saying I can go pro half price for 3 months, so I'm thinking of giving it a go........I have only sold one thing this month so far, so not a good start for the new year. But it might keep me focused.

i think ive cursed myself , first day I havent had a sale ;)

    AT,

Regarding the packing of books I always use a jiffy bag and have had no complaints but i notice a few on the sellers board seem to see this as the greatest sin. The buyer who was a seller that I had a problem with returned the book wrapped in foam then bubble wrap and then placed in a book box, similar to what amazon use. Im sure its a safer way but there is no way i can justify the extra cost when im only doing this to clear out my brother-in-law's books and to keep my mind going as im a stay-at-home-mum.

Ive just ordered 100 maillite bags from ebay that have the size chart printed on one side, im not sure if they will look nasty but they will save me a fair bit if they work, and the seller provides 100 address labels to cover up the chart if i wish.

Mishka I always use jiffy bags, the cheap ones from Viking and haven't had any complaints yet. If I have a mega heavy book then I might add an extra layer of bubblewrap round just in case, but that's about it.

Inside the jiffy I just use a thin plastic cover with my return address details on it.

For difficult sized books, you know those ones that don't really fit any of the jiffy bags well enough. I double wrap in polythene and bubble wrap and then use a plastic mailer.

    Soo

UPDATE I have sold three books since going 'pro' yesterday. I have also bought a few more but not good ones, I was so eager to get new stock I chanced buying a few that I wasn't sure about and they have turned out to be 50p=£1 books so even if they sell there is very little profit to be had.

I can't see what's wrong with a jiffy bag for a standard book. At the end of the day most of us are just clearing out our bookshelves, we're not professional booksellers.

I think some people are predisposed to moan and put peoples' backs up. We probably just have to expect to come across them from time to time.

After some success on Ebay I have just sold my first book on Amazon. Am I allowed to become a member?

Amazon's engineers are trying to fix the Marketplace problems. I hope they do it soon because my account is messed up.

I'm not a bulk seller but I buy DVD sized Jiffy envelopes from Poundland! You get 8 for £1 (cheapest I've seen).
  • On Sunday I had a buyer send me an email at lunchtime that I did not see until teatime. By this time the buyer had submitted an A-Z Claim against me for non delivery and failure to respond to the communication.

Fortunately it was one of the rare occasions when I had a Certificate of Posting. I responded to the claim with details of when and where it was posted and the fact that I had a COP.

Amazon have granted the A-Z Claim to the buyer but have not held me 'responsible'. It seems that they have therefore refunded the buyer themselves - the status of the claim is now showing as "You are not responsible for this claim or its reimbursement".

I'm not complaining because I don't have to go through the hassle of claiming non delivery from the PO, but I am surprised because Amazon have paid for something that they didn't need to.

    FFM :)

way my whinge worked and I sold a book!!

Need to sort out what books I have listed and what isn't so I can get them all listed and clear out this place. It's annoying as I'm not very organised so the listings all expire at random points in time and then I can't find the book which I like to check I still have before relisting!! There is a lesson to be learnt there I think!!

With regards to wrapping the books, I use whatever is available, either jiffy bags or bubble wrap and brown paper. Never had any complaints so I guess that's ok?!

I buy these as well. They also have smaller ones which take a CD, 10 for a £1 or really big ones JL4 (230mm x 320mm) where you get 5 for a £1. Saves me buying in bulk and they dont say Poundland anywhere.

So I am not the only one! These envelopes are really high quality too and they are branded (Jiffy). I have sent CD's in the 1(G) because I couldn't be bothered to buy the smaller ones.

I checked Poundland today. They have some interesting (and branded) stuff like labels, sellotape, sellotape holders, bubble wrapping all for £1... Bargain!
