tawnyowls wrote:I was just about to ask this question, so thanks. Do I take it that in general you stick up lots of cheapies on Amazon and leave them there, and sell the possibly worth-quite-a-bit ones on ebay?
Also, does anyone know if Green Metropolis is best for cheap or more expensive books? I guess perhaps if your book is likely to fetch less than £3 inc P&P on Amazon, it's best to try GM?
Hi Tawnyowls, I don't sell on ebay myself so can't answer that part but no doubt someone will be along shortly who does
I've listed quite a few books on GM in the last 6 weeks or so but have only sold 2 [and am embarrased to admit it but one was a non-sale 'cos had already sold it on Amazon & forgot to take it off GM]
I tended to list books on GM that I wouldn't mind selling for £3 or less where there are loads and loads on Amazon at 1p. If its a heavy book you can add postage but that might put buyers off some books not sure.
The other thing is with GM its not so well known as Amazon as apparently they don't do any advertising so its word of mouth. Am going to leave books on GM for 6 months or so to see what happens and have left some of them on Amazon as well - just have to remember to de-list on one if it sells on the other
Good luck with your sales

Mind you, having said the above, I know GM also sell on Amazon, never really paid much attention but had noticed that when checking my prices sometimes there were GM listings too.
Had a bit of a look and they have 808 feedback for the last 30 days and 2211feedback for the last 90 days sooooooooooo as not every buyer leaves feedback they must be selling a fair few books. There are 75105 listings for them which is substantial. As far as I can see, they only have one copy listed of each item so maybe when one sells they put another one up? So although I was saying in the post above that they are not as well known as Amazon they certainly shift books - just not many of mine!!!
Wonder how many books are listed with them in total and if they put all books on Amazon - maybe I'll email them and ask if no one knows

I've noticed this before and wondered why people are buying off them through Amazon when they aren't always the cheapest option. Wonder if it is the promise of donating to charity...
It would be interesting to know how many books they have - go on, email them...:DAMAZON SELLERS CLUB member 0024 come and join us :hello: make some space and get hold of some cash, we're on the Ebay and other auctions, Car Boot and Jumble Sales Board0 -

Hi Bella
The standard GM prices on Amazon are 58p and £1.68 depending on whether or not the seller (on GM) has offered their book at £3.75 or £3.75 - £1 postage discount.
So, I think that the GM sales on Amazon will be the books at 58p or £1.68 that are the lowest prices on Amazon. For example, there are some hard to find books generally listed on Amazon for approx £20 - £30, so, if a seller doesn't know about Amazon and lists on GM it will be snapped up pretty quick.
Just a theory!

If they have had 808 feedback in the last 30 days they have probably sold 3000 to 4000 books in the last 30 days on Amazon. On their website they donated £423.05 in November 2006 which equates to 8461 sales assuming 5p donation per book and no additional donations.
I did a book search this morning on GM and they have at least 94412 individual titles available, there will be more than that but I searched on the letter 'e' in the title and there will be books with titles without an 'e'.
It will be interesting to know how many sellers, titles, books etc that they have - if you email let us know.

apprentice_tycoon wrote:Hi there Riyazi, welcome to the thread! the pre-order list is 27,000 titles long, can you memorise them all before your trip to the charity shops?
I'm a pro merchant but can't get into the list but someone else will be able to help I'm sure
Is there any search facility that will tell you if it's preordered if you enter a book title?
BTW, I've found this thread immensely interesting and helpful, and would like to thank everyone for their very useful contributions.0 -

So what happens with these? Do the sellers still get their £3 for each book, or do they get the Amazon price? I'm a bit confused, because it seems it's GM, rather than the individual seller that's listed, so is GM sort of acting as an agent in this? I did see a couple of GM books listed on Amazon at a penny, and wondered how they could afford to do this and still give their sellers £3.0 -

Hi TO
If it's your book listed on GM that sells on Amazon you would be none the wiser, you would just get the usual £3 and email instructions on what to do with the order.
The buyer pays £1.68 + £2.75P&P on Amazon, and I guess approx £3.75 goes to GM after fees etc.
I've never seen any GM books listed at 1p, maybe they/he have their own books to sell?

The list is in excel so you could just do a 'find'.
Or, if you are listing on Amazon and the book is preordered it will say 'buyer waiting' with the average price.

Just a quick question on postage. I always send items to buyers using Royal Mail first class, costing 65p. I ordered from another internet company a few days ago and I noticed that they paid 61p first class. Is that because they have a contract with the Royal Mail?
I have always stuck a printed "YOUR AMAZON MARKETPLACE ORDER" label on the front of the package (as Amazon recommends). Is there a specific reason for this? Amazon recommend adding "SMALL PACKET" to the front of the package too. Will this reduce the price of postage?0
