  • Books can still be profitable when they sell for as little as 1p because if you have a light & skinny book you'll make money on the postage allowance that Amazon give you.
With videos it isn't as easy, the postage allowance isn't as good and the videos all weigh about the same, but it's still worth listing niche videos for a few months just to see what happens, it's free to list and no photos needed.

There are so few video machines left in use now that the prices of old vids has been driven down so I'd check them all out on a search and, if it was me I'd not attempt to sell any that are selling for less than £1 or so, just try listing one and see what your 'payment due to seller' amount will be, estimate the weight of the wrapped video and check the postage costs on the RM website and see if the amount you'll be given is worth your bother.

If you need any more help have a look at out 'selling your stuff on amazon' thread :hello:
  • Hi Nessauk

Single videos generally cost £1.39 to post 2nd class packet size.

In the run up to Christmas I listed some as-new videos on both Amazon and Ebay, mostly Disney and Warner Bros cartoons.

I sold one Tom and Jerry Video on Amazon for £12.25 + p&p. and have sold 9 on Ebay, most of them were listed at about £5 including p&p on Ebay.

If you list a 1p video on Amazon you would receive £1.44 if you are a ProMerchant, so 78p if not - from this you need to pay for p&p. (bear in mind it costs £1.39 just to post).

To break even if you are not a PM you would need to sell your videos for £1, that assumes that your packaging is recycled/free.

I would be extremely grateful if any of you experienced Amazon sellers could take a look at my thread regarding an Amazon problem.

When the postage system changed I actually withdraw 99% of my videos from Amazon as they were no longer able to make profit or even break even. I do have two or three specialised videos still for sale, but they are all not available on DVD so video is the only format possible so they do have a better sale price.

As my local charity shops no longer accept videos either I was forced to dump most of mine, which was very upsetting a I hate not being able to recycle everything.

I'm afraid that I've no experience of selling anything of real value so I can't add anything to the advice already given. I'm more of the bargain basement end of Amazon where a £10 book sale makes me feel rich :o

I've taken most of my cheaper videos off Amazon for the reasons stated above. Have recently sold a Buffy boxed set for about £20 and last week a Victoria Wood vid for over a tenner so they were both worth keeping on.

I've got plenty space to store videos so have kept a few listed which don't have many for sale or are listing at a higher price. Am not in a rush to sell them so I figure that they might go slowly in dribs and drabs but it is definitely worth keeping an eye on the postage costs.
