Trust me to get a difficult one to start with!

I have been going through some boxes of old fishing books, and found a couple that increased in value since purchase - a fact which is supported by recent sales on eBay.

However, there's a book I have that when searched through Amazon and bookfinder, comes up with a ridiculous price, but I can't back it up in this case with eBay sales.

The title is "Smuggling Villages of North east Essex" Author is George Pluckwell, and ISBN is 0860254038

The RRP is £5.25, so how on earth can I pitch this on Amazon with a realistic price?!!

    Hi Pete

The RRP for an out of print book does not necessarily reflect what buyers are prepared to pay. It is not unusual for a sought after OOP book to sell for at least 10xRRP.

I have searched for your book on bookfinder.com and found the following:

    http://www.bookfinder.com/search/?ac=sl&st=sl&qi=DseolxtkTW,er3UDnNOFLJmjReI_7523904157_2:75:137

I would be tempted to try it at £50-£70 initially and perhaps drop it later if there is no interest.

    Thanks FFM.

For some strange reason, I only get three hits when I search - the three most expensive!

    EDIT:
The difference is that you used a hyphen for North-east.

The copies quoted on Amazon UK are listed by the ludicrously overpriced American sellers who dont actually possess the books they have listed.

A realistic price for this would be about £ 15. If you go too high any potential buyer who comes along and checks Amazon for a copy would just walk away.

    Very true!

I agree that it would definitely sell at £15 if a serious buyer came along, however, I often sell OOP paperbacks £40 + and if a buyer wanted this particular book would probably stretch to a much higher price.

Sorry if this has been noted, but what does this mean:

  • Hi kev, I've had a quick search of our older threads and found a link for pre-approved selling http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html/203-6371586-1199149?ie=UTF8&nodeId=14279571

    Hi Kev

This was introduced a while ago to prevent the scammers listing a load of higher priced electronics/phones etc and making off with the money.

I believe that you just need to phone Customer Services and they check out your track record - if that's not the case I'm sure they can tell you how to get 'approved'.

  • I have just had my first 'multiple' sale through Amazon.

OK so it is only for 2 x 1p books but gratefully received nontheless especially as I am now only 2 short of my 30 target for November!

My question is that these are really thin light books and will probably still go at letter rate (costing 65p).

I don't feel I can accept the full £5.50 that this chap has paid in P&P fees from Amazon, so I would like to give a partial refund - my query is how much do folks feel is a fair refund? Should I give a full £2.75 (ie one books worth) or less?
