Difficult to answer without knowing what it is. If you want to PM me with details I'll let you know.
If its an out of date book where the content has been updated in other editions then it may not be worth much but then you could have a scarcity!0 -
Hi everyone,
Sales are going quite well, as usual slow on saturday - why is that? It is bizarre that people don't buy books on the weekend, or is it just me? Mondays seem to be my best day!
Anyway 5 days into the challenge and I should have sold 12.5 books to be on target, and I've sold 19 so its going well so far.
I went to a local village to the charity shops there to get more stock yesterday, it was ok actually, got about 12 books, haven't listed them yet, so will see if they will sell. I also went to the bootsale this morning and picked up about 20 books, then tomorrow I am doing a mystery shopping thing in another local town so will give that one a try for charity shops.
AT - thanks for that little tool, it's good, might use that when setting some of my prices.

Doh - have I jinxed my sales by starting the amazon challenge? Not sold a thing since starting it
My one sale was for a book that went earlier on in the first day. Not that I'm superstitious she says looking for black cats & ladders to avoid :eek:0 -
I've tried to list a few things - mainly x-box games for my son but it comes up that some of them cant be found.
Can you not list anything that Amazon itself doesnt sell or is there a way that you have to do it.
What about discontinued lines, like a sage version or slow cooker. Can you not put discontinued items on?The curve that can set a lot of things straight is a smile0 -

Thinking of selling some on Ebay instead. I've noticed that some books seem to sell for more than on Amazon. Has anyone else noticed this?
Are there types of books that people list on Ebay rather than Amazon?
Trying to go through loads of posts is there any books that sell better than others? I have loads of novels but am not sure if they will sell if a 'seasoned' seller has them on for 1p etc.
My library has a sale on at the moment and I'm not sure what I should look for in the non fiction other than it should not be too heavy lol.
All help very much appreciated. The curve that can set a lot of things straight is a smile0 -
Hi Hilary,
have you had a look at the very beginning of this thread? There is loads of advice for listing to be found there. Briefly though, current novels tend not to go for much and have lots of listings. Self help, text books and anything academic can be more lucrative but you need to be wary of older books where there may be newer editions as older ones won't be worth much.
There is another thread about 'what sold well on amazon' so may be worth having a gander at that before going to the library? Always take weight for postage into consideration when pricing but if you are prepared to wait and have the storage space then even light 1p books are worth it even if not hugely profitable.

Hi Hilary,
I am fairly new at this too but this is what I do.
I try not to buy books unless I am fairly sure that they will sell. You get to know this by what has sold before or someone has mentioned it on another thread. I have made mistakes. Bought books in the past for £1 then found they will only sell for 1p.
When I go to the charity shops or library I make a note of books I'm not sure of with either pen and paper or my mobile phone and then go home and check them. Then I go back and buy them if they are still there. Other more experienced people wouldn't need to do that.
I don't sell any penny books. I give them to the charity shop and I like to donate like that. It makes me feel better when I buy a book from them worth a lot of money.
I have just started to sell on ebay and have just sold a couple of big hardback books for more money than I would have done on Amazon. Also, one of my items is closing tomorrow on ebay for more than 3 times what somebody would pay on Amazon. On ebay people can browse titles. On Amazon you have to know more what you are looking for.
I only list on ebay when the title has sold on there before and you check that through 'completed listings'.
The beginning of this thread from AT should tell you everything you need to know. I keep going back to it for reference.
Good Luck. Ana0 -
Thanks Ana
but last night I listed some games and was jumping up and down when I got an email saying one had sold already.
However I have boobed on the desciption and listed as new then on checking it isnt, although what you would expect second-hand.
I have emailed the buyer expliaing and asking if they wish to proceed. Is this enough? or should I jus refund.
Also my daughter has given me a book on stuttering but I cant find a listing for it and the ISBN isnt recognised. How do I list it then? The curve that can set a lot of things straight is a smile0 -
if i sold a book and received the email sat tea time, can I post the book 2nd class monday or does it have to go first cos they ordered it saturday??0
