selling your stuff on Amazon - part 7 - advice for newbies in the first post

Hi all
I'm pleased with my Amazon sales - though I wouldn't know any better because I only started selling on Nov 1st. I've sold 23 items so far. I don't list anything that's selling for a tiny amount - which gets annoying as the price is the last stage in the listing! I put those books on greenmetropolis. Not sold anything on there though!
I think this is probably me selling high quality books that I bought new and have looked after. When I run out of those (fairly soon) I'll probably struggle to keep selling. I don't have a car, so car boots and jumble sales are out (unless I can persuade a friend to drive me). I'll have to trawl round local charity shops
Good luck to everyone

not quite as tiresome as that - when you put in you ISBN and get taken to the page where the book is shown have a look at all the other offerings before you write a single word, you might see that you don't need to price match the cheapest, the cheapest could be an acceptable copy and yours is like new so you can ask more for it.0 -
Nearly posted a big whinge last night, as my sales have completely dried up over the last two and a half weeks  after an extremely steady August, September and October, producing my best months of sales so far. So no way was I going to join the Amazon challenge!!!
I didn't get chance to post last night, but obviously just thinking about it worked as I sold something today - an audio cassette book. I bought 5 from one seller off ebay a while ago (paid more for postage than I did the books). This one has sold for £30 :j - I only had to sell one of them to be in profit. Unfortunately it has sold to Norway (I thought best to widen the market as much as possible as the comments have been that demand for audio cassette books is in decline and the value of these books seemed to be quite high on Amazon, so could afford the postage (which I think is going to be nearly £10). However, I am still in profit even if postage is that high. Is Airsure the best one to use (better than International Signed For) please?
I am so relieved I have finally sold something again!!:DAMAZON SELLERS CLUB member 0024 come and join us :hello: make some space and get hold of some cash, we're on the Ebay and other auctions, Car Boot and Jumble Sales Board0 -
Thanks for that tip apprentice tycoon :T
I suspect I am losing out a bit by going for the lowest price as my books are in very good condition. I'll be a bit more careful about listing in future

That's fantastic going Blue - hopefully you'll be able to keep it up even when you run out of your books.
I've noticed (probably years after everyone else, I know  ) that greenmetropolis sell on Amazon - and they have pretty high feedback ratings so must be turning over a fair few books. The ones I have looked at for sale are the same ones on their website. So when you sell through greenmet, does this mean you might have actually sold through Amazon?!?AMAZON SELLERS CLUB member 0024 come and join us :hello: make some space and get hold of some cash, we're on the Ebay and other auctions, Car Boot and Jumble Sales Board0 -

Your packet will be covered with just ordinary airmail so there isn't any need for airsure or international signed for0 -
apprentice_tycoon wrote:Hi hilary, the straightforward answer is if your item isn't in Amazons database then you can't sell it so it would have to go on ebay - a lot of us on this thread are using a combination of amazon, ebay, green metropolis and readitswapit to get the items sold
thanks apprentice. Pity about some of my books though! But popped over to GreenM and registered and put on a couple of books just to test the water so to speak. Checked Ebay with games I couldnt put on Amazon but the prices are quite low so i would make more at a car boot.
On the bright side though, I just put 4 empty hp cartridges on with a start price of £5 and got a bid within 10 minutes with neary 7 days to go.
HOPE i'm on a roll.........The curve that can set a lot of things straight is a smile0 -
I have just started listing, and as I have only THREE books at present I thought I'd put images with them. I have been given FTP details by Amazon but every time my FTP client connects to their server they seem to log me out - even before I've put in passwords etc.
Is this common? Does anyone else use images?
TIALife should be a little nuts; otherwise it's just a bunch of Thursdays strung together.0 -
Im sick of amazon.
I sold well over 300 items over the space of 5 years. My account got hacked so they closed it and made me set up a new account with a new address. I then sold something but simply forgot the email went to the other address and not my longterm primary email addy.
So theyve banned me from selling permenantly.
Ive explained my story but you end up speaking to idiots in their call centre. Idiots who cant even understand clear english.0 -
