selling your stuff on Amazon - part 7 - advice for newbies in the first post

Hi
I took the plunge and listed some of my books & PC Games last night and am amazed to find that I've sold 4 items already!! Beginner's luck? I sold at the lowest price - which means I'm not making much money on them - but more than if the books were just gathering dust on the shelf.
Thanks for this thread - it's been great reading your posts. I only found this site a couple of days ago. I took a day's holiday yesterday to deal with my debt (still reeling!) and feel much better about things because of the people on here.
I'm looking forward to becoming a real amazonian!!

Hi Jenny, well done on your sales. You'll be an addict like the rest of us now!
My listings are still not live and I'm now soooo mad  48 hours and counting, I can't afford to lose another days sales. I'm going to try and phone Amazon today, so wish me luck.

OK, I phoned Amazon and finally got to speak to someone. Apparently they are aware that they have a number of technical issues affecting seller accounts and hope to resolve the situation by this evening.
However, that is word for word the message that other sellers have had for the past 2 days, so basically they have no idea what is wrong or when it can be fixed. Bang goes my sales then, 511 books all listed and not one showing as available or even showing up when someone searches.

Very slow sales. 2 books in 7 days!
Thinking of selling some on Ebay instead. I've noticed that some books seem to sell for more than on Amazon. Has anyone else noticed this?
Are there types of books that people list on Ebay rather than Amazon?0 -
Well after moaning on here that I'd not sold anything, I did get one sale last night. Yay.
Could do with some more though, just so that I can actually move in the living room!!! So, dear Amazon.....let things be sold!

Thanks,
The problems might be more widespread though than just holiday settings. There are several big sellers complaining that books that they show as listed, are not actually appearing when a buyer searches. Some tests done by the big sellers suggests that in some cases a quarter of their stock has disappeared, and in some cases a search for a popular book shows nothing at all in stock, where in fact several copies are listed.
Anastasia, I tend to list books on Ebay that have a history of selling (see completed listings), although I do list 'art' books and self help books as well as people often look in certain categories like that. Obscure books can be difficult on ebay as someone needs to know what they are looking for. Also, hobby books like Trains, buses, fishing, duck shooting (yep sold one of those) are OK on ebay, but no coffee table books, unless you can get the Madonna 'sex' book, as they tend to be too heavy and the postage puts people off.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
