Have just spoken to Credit Score Matters again and they have changed their mind and will refund due to their not sending out an id number! So I have to say that I have changed my mind about them always assuming that the refund actually happens.
Don't forget that they've caused you a lot of unnecessary hassle (plus the cost of your calls) so they don't really deserve any praise if you ask me. For numerous reasons they had no choice but to refund you in full. Mainly because they cannot provide anybody with any proof of membership when asked.
They just work on a percentage rate hoping that some of their "customers" won't ask for a refund which allows them to keep the money. Those who demand refunds usually get their money back in full because this company knows they wouldn't have a leg to stand on if it ended up in court. Their profits are generated purely by the people who walk away without a refund just because this company has a policy of telling everyone they won't get their money back (even though most do when they persist).
Theoretically speaking, if just 1000 people are unwittingly signed up to this membership and half are denied a refund, this company will be making in the region of ten thousand pounds straight profit for a service that their "customers" will never use. Even if they refund 90% of their "customers", they would still make around two thousand pounds. When you also take into consideration that this company are very prominent in results of google searches for people seeking their credit report, it's entirely plausible that tens of thousands have been victims of this company. It's a very easy way to make money if you can get away with it!
You've done well to get your money back martidj but don't forget that they played you for a fool by trying to fob you off when you first contacted them about the issue. Fortunately you are no fool but how many others just take their word for it and allow this company to keep the money that they are in no way entitled to? This lot are well aware that most people don't go back to try again with a company once they've been told "no". For example, if my credit card company told me I'd made an error and that I'm not entitled to a refund, I'd take their word for it and walk away. This is why they tried their luck with you on this occasion.
Everybody needs to remember when dealing with this company that every single thing they do is extremely calculated and cunning. The entire operation is a machine that the "customer" is fed into at one end then put through the motions. Once you've been fed into this machine, they're just toying with you. They already know what you're going to do almost before you've even thought about doing it.0 -

I am quite shocked at how narrow minded most of these responses are.
Yes viewing the sites terms and conditions and highlighting that fees are charges is oh so clever but the site operates a little more sneaky than that.....
Although we all acknowledged that they give you a free 30day free trial and that you will not be charged if you cancel, what it fails to tell you is that that are one of another company which enters you into reward now programme and that if you do not cancel that automatic membership within only 10days you will be charges £19.95 for a rewards site that offers you nothing!
Now you see the con????? Most as I did contacted Credit Score Matters within the 30 day period to cancel Credit score matters (which apparently they ignored) nonetheless they claim you must also cancel your membership to the Rewards now Programme which is all apparently explained in the welcome e-mail which you DO NOT get! They then blame this on a technical issue and claim that you should have contacted them 'if you were having technical issue' which you don't know about!!!
They have had many many many complaints to consumer advice!

I hope this is the correct thread to post on. I tried to apply for 10 day free trial for my credit report with Credit Score Matters, did the application online back in Nov 2011 and as advised on the website that they had insufficient information regarding my current address and they would be in touch. This was on 15th Nov 2011 and I only had a general email from them saying I had applied for my credit report and if this was not me to get in touch with customer service.
Therefore I had no access to site or the report as far as I was aware. Didn't get any emails or calls about this so left it to it at this point. Few days later letter came through from them asking for 2 forms of ID (bank or credit card statement, mortgage statement or utility, council tax bill) that are less than 3 months old
Letter clearly states that on receipt of this information, we will release your report.
I still have the letter here and I was going to eventually send in this information as in my mind this application was incomplete and therefore couldnt possibly be considered to be chargeable as I had not accessed anything nor been given any account details for this by them.
Having only just noticed on my bank account there has been 3 payments taken for my subscription with Credit Score Matters in Nov, Dec and now Jan for 19.95 per month.
Having tried to find the notification I thought I had in an email saying application was incomplete I managed to find another email from them dated 15 Nov 2011 giving account/login details and advising I have 10 days free trial and after that will be charge 19.95 per month afterwards if I dont cancel.
As my email had stored this in junk it has been sitting there ever since and today is the first time I even read this. And as far as I knew it was incomplete as I never sent the docs they requested so how could they suddenly magic out the additional verification/id they asked for?
I want to contact them and ask them to refund this subscription as I never sent in the additional information as application was incomplete and I had never seen this email til today and wouldnt be even writing this if I hadnt been in the middle of going through my bank statements.
Has anyone got any advice on this? Or can anyone tell me if I am wrong in asking for this to be cancelled/refunded due to being void in how this was set up?0 -
To anyone who has subscribed and assumed it's a 100% free service, if you're too daft to read the terms and conditions or FAQs, you have no one but yourself to blame.

Glad you took time to read the thread. I personally for example did not say anything about it being a free service. In my case I did try and get the 10 day free trial, but according to their website my application was incomplete and needed more info. They sent me a letter asking for it, I never supplied it. Despite that they set it all up and started charging! And like others have said I dont think people who are asking for genuine advice for various reasons need a lecture on taking responsibility. Companies like this have caught many people out in various ways despite claiming to be transparent in all their actions. I cant see any reason saying serves you right if you are out of pocket for some reason having dealt with a company like this. Bit sad really that if someone asls for help for advice or help you can only offer a lecture.0 -

Did you copy and paste it from an earlier post from one of your fellow back slapping gang of bullies by any chance? It's just a pity you didn't follow your own advice by actually bothering to read what you're involving yourself with beforehand.
How many times do you cyber bullies need telling? IF YOU HAVE NOTHING USEFUL TO SAY - JUST SAY NOTHING! Surely it's really not that difficult to understand is it? I'm not sure if you're getting some kind of perverse sexual kick out of demeaning people who ask for assistance but I can assure you all that you're not helping and you're not wanted here.0 -
Update on my case for now - been to the bank and asked for my card to be cancelled and new to be issued, spoke to the customer services there and they asked me to get in touch with the company first asking for a refund and said if it doesn't happen then to speak to the fraud team at the bank who can then look into it and try and get the money back.0

I'd suggest you don't waste your time telephoning them. This company has trained its staff in the art of fobbing off their victims. They're far less likely to lie if its all kept in writing with the threat of the involvement of the likes of trading standards, the OFT etc.0

I received a letter today (1 March 2012) dated 29 Feb from these chancers, advising I had registered for their service (I haven't - I only discovered who they are when I googled their name and ended up here), but that having checked their records they 'hold insufficient information about (me) at (my) current address, and therefore require further evidence that confirms (my) residence at this address'.
It then requests two forms of identification, utility bill, credit card statement, bank statement, etc.
Ordinarily I'd just bin the letter, but on Monday this week someone tried to hack into my bank current account (unsuccessfully, as they didn't know the security questions) and I wonder if this is a further attempt to get my details?
I might give them a call tomorrow and ask where they got my name and address from.....0
