Well to all the people that have lost £19.95...

    1. You wont get it back

    This is factually incorrect.

Many people actually have got refunds regarding the third party helping themselves to their money. Myself included. The details of this appear on this MSE thread: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1836087

To flatly suggest that people have no chance of getting their money back will simply deter them from even trying to do so. Thus playing right into the hands of the company which took their money via the back door.

Is it too much to ask that you are a little bit more respectful to those who come here looking for advice after making a genuine mistake? Jumping down people's throats and lecturing them on what they should have done is pointless. By this stage, people are already aware of their errors and are unlikely to make the same mistake again.

Most are searching for advice on how to rectify the problem and not a stern telling off from someone who trawls forums searching for vulnerable people to kick while they're down. I've noticed many of your kind on the forums appear to be scrambling around competing with each other to be the first to put the boot into people. You may get some kind of perverse pleasure from doing this but I really can't undertand why you feel the need to be so abrupt about it.

Perhaps you should try helping people by offering advice on how to get out of the mess instead of telling them something they already know.

Just for everyones information - I have contacted the OFT and they have replied in detail but here is the short of it!

I have therefore forwarded your complaint to the TSS where the trader is based for it to consider investigating the matter of unlicensed trading in their area.
have you got any further forward with this? the same has happened to my girlfriend, they took 40.00 from the account. I have registered a complaint with canyoutrustthem.com, but don't know if it's worth taking it any further or leaving with them to sort out. Probably seen the last of the money though.

Yawn Yawn. Same old "I did not read the details and have been charged so the site must be a scam". If you thought it was completely free, did the penny not drop when all of a sudden you are asked for your bank/card details?

How ironic. An accusation of repetition made by somebody who has repeated a well overused comment himself. The same old suggestion that people should have seen it coming can be found duplicated dozens of times on these forums and is far from original. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a copy and paste from one of your online peers. I note from other threads that you're also prone to making use of the time honoured "you should have read the terms and conditions". That old chestnut is a particular favorite amongst users trying to impress the "big boys" with lots of stars by their names. Yawn yawn yawn.

I'd just like to point out the following statement which appears in the MSE forum RULES:

Please be nice to all MoneySavers. That’s the forum motto. Remember the prime aim is to help provide info and resources.

With this in mind, would you care to explain why you have chosen to use the forum with the sole intention of humiliating a vulnerable person in such a condescending manner? In doing so, you've clearly broken the rules of the forum.

As I mentioned previously in this thread, I've noticed there are dozens of your kind lurking in the background, scouring the forums looking for vulnerable people to kick whilst they're down. It's almost a competition between you to see who can be the first to put the boot into a new poster instead of trying to help. The fact that you and your stooges actually "thank" each other for posting bullying comments is something that worries me immensely.

What exactly do you get out of bullying people online in this way? People come to this site because they have made genuine mistakes and are hopeful that somebody may be able to help them with their problem. Instead they are immediately confronted by a regular contributor effectively telling them they're an idiot. What can this possibly achieve other than to give the impression that there is no hope for them and that they should just give up? Which ultimately plays into the hands of the companies out there who are misbehaving (I'm not suggesting that this particular company is guilty of any wrongdoing by the way).

I've never met a human yet who hasn't made a mistake. I've made mistakes, you have, we all have. You would be wise to remember this before you next consider getting on your high horse with the intention of speaking to people in such a condescending and disrespectful manner.

People quickly become aware of the mistakes they made which resulted in them finding themselves in certain predicaments and they really don't need the likes of you joyously ramming it down their throats. They're after advice, not insults. They already know what they did wrong and are searching for a cure, not a prevention.

If you can't say anything helpful, kindly don't say anything at all. In the meantime, if I see any more of this online bullying, I'll be reporting it each and every time. There's absolutely no need for what you and your pals do here. Please be more respectful to your fellow human beings.

It's really not much to ask is it?
  • Just to let everyone know, I was about to put this down to a lesson learned after they took 2 payments from our account - same thing as what happened to every1 else. I only decided to fight it after I realised how many people it has happened to. I have hounded Credit Score Matters & Rewards Now for a week with threatening emails - saying I was going to Police etc - demanding proof that we asked for account with Rewards Now - generally giving them a hard time - We have now had an apology and a refund! DONT GIVE IN!

Bravo. Glad to hear you've denied them money because of MSE forums

The fact of the matter is you've made a request for legally binding evidence of your subscription and they can't or won't supply it. So they have no choice but to give a full refund.

I hope people read this and realise that it's relatively easy to get their money back by making this request. The company may change tactics at some point in the future by actually supplying evidence but at the moment they seem to be paying out anybody who asks for proof.

Anybody reading this must make sure they're not fobbed off by a pre-prepared response to your first request for proof and a refund. They try this every single time and do so in the hope that you go away and let them keep your money. Do not stop. Make it absolutely clear to them that you will take this all the way if you have to. And in the unlikely event that they continue to play hardball, you should start making contact with the relevant authorities mentioned in this MSE thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1836087

And don't forget, if you're not impressed with this particular company, you'll probably want to avoid all of their sister companies housed in the same building under the umberella of Adaptive Affintiy. The heavily advertised Credit Confidential is the one they are currently pushing with their multi million pound campaign.
  • the email that made them give me the refund was basically along the lines of - as you have failed to provide any evidence of my knowledge or instruction to open the account, i hereby give you 1 week to refund the full amount. i set a time and date and told them if the money wasn't paid into my account by that time, date, i would be at the police station the next day to report them! If they had nothing to hide, i doubt they would have refunded it so quickly!

With the above points in mind, you still persist in encouraging people to push to have money they agreed to pay returned.

If you have made a mistake then learn from it and move on, instead the business is being described as a "scam" and being reported to trading standards.

    Doesn't sem fair to me.
  • we didnt agree to pay the money though - thats the point. it was a free 10 day trial - if you cancelled the account within 10 days, you cancelled the membership - no charge to pay. if not, u pay 19.95 per month. the account was cancelled within 8 days but we were still charged. also, a payment of 19.95 was taken for a £10 ASDA voucher that we never asked for or recieved. the company is clearly making a lot of money out of this, legit or not. Given the choice, Id rather have my money back than let them keep it - I presume you would too - so I cant understand why you are telling everyone to leave it. It shouldn't bother you wether they get it back or not - it's not your money.

Firstly, my comment about people coming to this website seeking advice was not a specific reference to customers of this company as you claim. It was clearly a generalisation describing the ethos of MSE forums as a whole. If you'd read what I'd written correctly you'd have realised this and avoided the embarrassment of incorrectly stating that I was making a direct reference to the "customers" of this particular company.

The abuse and bullying dished out by forum regulars to new users is widespread on here and is in no way specific to this particular thread.

With reference to your second point regarding my statement that I am not accusing the company of any wrongdoing, my comment was very much tongue in cheek and intended to be ironic. I clearly have a dislike of the way they do business. Although admittedly, the attempt at irony isn't overly clear when I look back on it now. Perhaps I should have inserted a smiley face to further emphasise the true intention of this remark :D

I am pleased to tell you that you actually succeeded in making at least one correct statement in your last post. This business is indeed being reported to Trading Standards. You appear to be suggesting that they are somehow being victimised through no fault of their own. Granted, it's one thing for a gang of Internet users to make accusations against a company but when the Office of Fair Trading felt the need to intervene with another of Adaptive Affinity's brands, it suggests that something isn't quite right doesn't it? http://www.oft.gov.uk/news-and-updates/press/2009/75-09

Or would you like us to believe that the the OFT are also just a bunch of muppets like us who didn't read the smallprint?

I fail to understand how you feel as though you are in a position to condemn people when you have no knowledge of the way this particular company operates. Imagine going to a cash machine tonight and withdrawing £10, only to discover at a later date that £20 had been deducted from your bank account. Would you stand for that? Of course you wouldn't.

Finally, many people have raised the question about this company issuing refunds. I'd be very much interested to hear your opinion as to the reasons behind this company refunding their "customers" after putting up virtually no resistance whatsoever? If they had a cast iron legal right to take and keep this money do you honestly believe they'd hand it back as soon as they're asked.
