If two or more prices are displayed for the same product the lowest price MUST be charged in order to avoid committing an offence. The expiry date on pos material is of no consequence to you as the consumer, if it is out of date it should be removed, if not removed it MUST be honoured or the goods removed from sale, if you have been charged a higher price than the LOWEST price displayed the store has committed an offence.

Thats correct mate, and I think they have to keep the product off the shelf for 48 hours.

Shame it had to end, will have to get free stuff from comps now

    One for the brave....

In a store I was in at the weekend I noticed a big SEL in the meat department that said "Beef joints £5.85 per Kilo" no mention of what type of joint, dont think the sign had a barcode on it either!

How the hell can they display a sign as ambiguous as this???

I was going to try it if I didnt find anything else but I got some organic chickens on a dead cert.
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

Absolutely we all have elderly relatives etc...

What comes across in your posts though taxi is that you seem to think that tesco employees sit behind a desk dreaming up ways of conning people out of their hard earned money and ways to rip people off. The fact is that it simply does not happen. There are no head office instructions to "refund the difference" as there are no store instructions to the same end. There are no head office instructions to avoid the price promise at all costs. There is no instruction from anywhere to take advantage of customers and anyone who thinks that such instructions exist and could remain hidden within such a large corporation is naive to the extreme.

Sorry Spa2k, but you are wrong.

To help fund my degree I spent 18 months working evenings at a Tesco Extra in the North West, finishing in May of this year. I spent a fair amount of time working on the cs desk and was told on several occasions by managers to offer the difference to customers to see if they would accept it.(And the ones who did not know the policy obviously would accept it.)

I know this is not head office policy, but on a local level it happens a lot as I am sure you know, so it is a bit off you trying to deny it.

I've been told by CS staff in a couple of stores that they have been told to offer the difference first before the full R&R.

It obviously DOES happen at store level, maybe not in yours spa but it certainly does happen..

  • Thought I would briefly tell you all what I managed to get an R+R on tonight. I went into my local store with a huge list from here and found nothing priced wrongly - not even meat!! Funnily enough there were alot of removed SEL on items I knew were wrong so am guessing someone beat me to it.
Anyway I reached the mobile phone shelves and saw a huge banner across the top saying 10% off all PAYG ends 29th October. OMG I thought, every single phone is priced wrongly! I went up to the desk with just one phone which scanned at the SEL at 99.99 so I said I wanted two. I paid for them and then all of a sudden discovered they were priced wrongly, shock horror!!
First I was told the offer was only applied if you spend £40, then told it had expired and was clearly shown. Then I said it was an obvious mispriced so I wanted my money back. The lady agreed to fully refund AND charge my card the right amount!! Cheeky madam!
I stood my ground though and ten minutes later I saw them removing the signs, I stood there and made it known I had seen them, just so they couldn't say they weren't there. Three managers later I got all the money refunded and walked out with two much needed phones.
Had to tell you all as firstly I hope someone else will find this offer still wrongly advertised and secondly I hope it encourages people to stand their ground. I am soooo shy and to be honest I thought I was going to faint while standing there for ten minutes waiting for them to get back to me.
My husband is so proud of me and so chuffed with his phone.

Oh and with regards to CS being told to refund the difference, I know also this is policy in my local branch. Without this site I would not have known my rights so a HUGE thanks to everyone who contributes on here. XXX
:T Benjamin has won!!! Am soooo proud. Thank you to everyone who agreed my baby was the cutiest. Want to go round and hug everyone who voted, it means so much to me!:A

Judging by the way Dundee now seem to be treating the issue of OOD SELs/POS, they may as well have a big poster in the entrance to every Tesco:

    EVERYTHING 99P
    End date: 30/10/06

I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!
