It's a lapel badge with the logo of the local Council on it. If you don't have one you can easily make your own, Blue Peter style, by buying a blank perspex badge from W.H.Smith, cutting out the logo of your council off their letterhead and sliding it into the badge.

If they want to jump to panicky conclusions that you might be a Trading Standards official, it's up to them. But I'm just wearing it because I'm a big fan of my local council :)

It's amazing what a bit of reverse psychology does. All of a sudden you see the guilt written all over their faces as they fawn over you with apologies and cross your palm with silver in accordance with their advertised policy.

    Great stuff !!!

Terry Leahy masks, Home Made 'blue peter style' council badges.

I think Mr T may have a new product range 'THE R&Rer Value packs' :D
Drat and Double Drat, curse that Mr T excuse for not giving me a refund.

EVERY LITTLE EXCUSE HELPS in trying to get out of the R&R policy when the law has been broken, especially on high value items. :D

Thanks WLFC1, but how do you guys spot a misprice in the first place? I was wondering round tesco rather aimlessly today- anything could have been a misprice- there must be some clues that you can use to spot a misprice or do people come across them purely by chance?

My 3 golden rules to spotting misprices

Misprice rule No.1 Check for any prices on the products against the Shelf edge label (SEL) look for any conflicts, 9 times out of 10 it will scan at the higher price.

Rule No.2 Check for yellow labels (particurly check the expiry dates for any of these offers.

Rule No.3 check for glitches, i.e. 6 types of cadbury's chocolate bars and 1 particular flavour has been removed from the offer, at the moment there is an offer on these choc bars, however, the bubbly flavour is not included, but there are labels stating that are included (but they were removed from the offer on the 24th Oct).
  • I know this is a little off-topic, but I don't know where else to post... Does Tesco still offer it's Double the Difference refund policy if you can find the item cheaper within 7 days within 3 miles? If so, is it written down anywhere! Hope someone can help :)

We all spend so much time in different tesco stores we know the prices of stuff better than the tesco staff is that what you want too hear?

All the things you need to look for are posted in the past but here is a clue
    Prices are wrong!

double SEL's 2 differnet prices hopfully it scans at the higher price

out of date offers hope they havnt extended the offer

stickered items sticker says less than the SEL

meat SEL says one price per KG the pack says a higher price/KG

The bogoff and other multi buy offers are mainly pure luck no one buys them at first knowing the offer wont come off unless like the cadburys offer the stores left an out of date SEL up for the bubbly bars. the console thing was the same eary on till tesco really made big mistakes with the posters we found out the PSP basepack wasnt in the offer no yellow SEL.

yellow and white SEL's yellow normally indicates it is part of an offer white say it isnt if you see an offer poster or large SEL saying that somthing is included and the sel is white you may get over charged.

the last 2 numbers on the SEL barcode is the issue number of the SEL the higher number is most likley to be charged.

anyone got anything else to add?
  • That was really helpful thank you.

(I'm not lazy, I have been reading these posts for a while and tried searching for my exact question but since this thread is >2500 posts long I can't read all of it!)

Big ticket items (TV's, sat navs etc)

Go to Tesco direct website or use the catologue and compare the prices to ones in store?, do a price check on any that are different, this doesn't mean you will definately have a misprice on your hands (but you may have a possibility).

you wont fand them all in 1 post well maybe you will I think I posted a list in the past

the misprices thread tell you what to look for
    expired SEL
poster saying this or that SEL says somthing else

They just needs to be found. We do spend alot of time in tesco looking as SEL's and getting to know the prices of the stuff were are interested in or buy normally and we notice price changes just because they are different and stand out so we check the price.

Keep an eye out when at/passing cs desk to see what people are getting refunds on or any returns labels on the cs desk.
