Becky - I suggest you let slip the dogs of war and give them some SERIOUS stick.(yes I am so uncouth as to drink white wine with steak, but rest assured, if I could find a decent red on R&R thats what I would be quaffing)
)
BTW - In the Bicester Tesco yesterday (town centre, not the Village one) there was someone checking every meat pack and SEL against her machine. DAMN these people are goodYou don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -

She refused to return the 2 packs I had already paid for as she said they were needed for the investigation.
Obviously pursue with the complaint but this is one to chalk up to experience.
If that had happened to me I would not have left the store without the steak I had originally purchased, refund or not!
To take them away from you like that is theft, if they offer a refund or not, they were your property and you had a receipt to prove it.
As you said, R&Rs are a great find, but not worth the hassle of tampering with labels for, this just sounds like a blatent attempt to get out of the R&R by the management.
Spa or constantine, have you ever heard of managers taking goods away from customers like this for "an investigation"?Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

perhaps becky should ask Tesco for some recognition for the part she played in the discovery of the "tampered meat" .. some gift vouchers would be nice eh?
To be honest I would have felt better if she'd said you're one of those MSE'rs now clear off. It's the fact that she was suggesting I was doing underhand things instore to get a bit of steak, and that she did it in front of a number of people that upset me. Will never go to that store again!
Am definitely going to write letters of complaint though.I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.

Besides, if like me you like your steak coated in cracked black pepper, pan fried with mushrooms, green peppers and garlic, then gently sauteed in single cream until you have a rich sauce, then white wine goes with it better. (Along with sauteed potatoes and green beans

A steaks not a steak unless its coated in a thick crust of pepper, although I prefer to have mixed peppercorns rather than just black.
But this isnt the time or place to discuss the menu that R&Ring offers. And I'm no Gordon Ramsay.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

Yes.
From the sounds of it, the store believed (rightly or wrongly) that the price labels had been tampered with. For that reason, they have refused the refund and have retained them.
It is something that happens fairly regulary, unfortunatly. Some people consider retailers fair game, whether it be shoplifting or swapping prices.
It goes without saying - I am not accusing anyone on this site of any wrong doing. Simply trying to explain from the stores perspective.Who or what was I before you came in to my life

I wouldnt take it from them and CERTAINLY wouldnt let it put me off going back there, if anything it would make me even more determined to R&R the trolley off them!
Either that or name and shame the store so that hoards of MSErs can pour in there and give them the grief they so rightly deserve!Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
yeah name the store so us fellow mse folk can go and congratulate the "hero" :T
OR ..... ....
"Hi am from the northern express .. i hear that meat has recently been tampered with in ur store?.. could you please give us the story in ur own words for tomorrow article" *evil laugh*"Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering"0 -

Surely they cannot just keep the products and force a refund on the customer in this way though?
The goods are still the property of the customer are they not?

Say Becky was not a genuine customer, but instead was a thief who had changed the labels to steal the product. Would you expect any retailer to hand over the goods in those circumstances?
Again, for the sake of clarity - I am not accusing anyone of anything. Hell, it could all be wrong - I was not there and have know way of knowing what happened. Just trying to offer an alternative POV.Who or what was I before you came in to my life

Plushchris wrote:Taxiphil, hows things going on the ban front? I've sent a letter today to the general manager of the store I was banned from, have you had any reply regarding your ban?
Can you PM me the details of that contact you posted about on the earlier thread?
My ban was overturned straight after it was issued but they're still "investigating" me in other ways - will post more about that as things unfold over the coming weeks. I would just reiterate that people shouldn't use a Clubcard for R+Rs as it's been proved that it's a mechanism for them to spy on us with. If you pay in cash and don't use a Clubcard, they're in the wilderness.
Will PM you details of who you should contact re. bans.
Still waiting for the results of my Data Protection Act request, and I'm ready to take legal action for defamation of character when I see what various members of staff have written/recorded/circulated about me.
Had a really helpful reply off a guy at Trading Standards who's taking all the issues very seriously and promising to investigate.
Oh, and the ASA have transferred my complaint over the misleading policy signs to TS, as it's not in their remit to investigate Point of Sale material. I was surprised by this, but it's probably for the best as the ASA don't have any teeth anyway - but TS can bring criminal prosecutions.
Had some real fun today getting R+Rs on 2 Philips MP3 players - more to follow later when my sides have stopped aching with laughter.0
