I had this situation a little while ago, this was caused by an equipment failure meaning that price changes were not transmitted to the self scan tills. The equipment that failed is among the most vital in the store and was fixed within a relatively short space of time - but not quick enough for us to notice that things were askew.

The self scan and the tills all operate from the same database however are udpated in a different way and at a different time.

Thanks for your reply :) . I take it this is quite rare then? Would it be local to the store or nationwide?

Also, if the cashier notices a difference in price (eg on stickered items), do they override it themselves or do they have to call for assistance?

has anyone ever got anything out of Tesco as a complaint against their CS staff being rude and / or refusing an R&R?

I guess it can happen from time to time, equipment does break and things do go wrong...as has been suggested it could simply have been that the items were scanned as the price changes were happening...to be honest i have just given a scenario that i am aware of, there could be many many more that i know nothing about.

If a cashier notices a difference in price, unless the item is on "price verify" (a process where the cashier cannot proceed without verifying the price of the product) then the price cannot be overridden without assistance.

  • Had my first R&R today, was very proud even if it was just 49p!!
I went in with a huge list from here thinking I may be able to get two or three of them but I got none on the list. The closest I got was the Jack Johnson CD priced a pound differently on the CD case than on the shelf. Where do you stand with this as the price was obviously marked on the CD so you couldn't say you didn't see it but it was a pound different, in Tesco's favour, to the price on the shelf.
:T Benjamin has won!!! Am soooo proud. Thank you to everyone who agreed my baby was the cutiest. Want to go round and hug everyone who voted, it means so much to me!:A

"you return any item for any reason, Clubcard points will be removed from your ..."
Found this on tesco.com terms&conditions... Not sure if it applies in store though, but imagine it does.

Well found............although that's possibly been there since Clubcard started, and its only recently that we've noticed points being removed.............a lot more removed from our accounts than were wombled.(re MUNT's answer)..........
    Couponing....."every little hurts"

  • Kids clothing 20% off marked prices including shoes but excluding outfits

Some items marked with biro & scan at discounted prices,
Some items not marked with biro & scan at higher prices

Was thinking about filling up my trolley with as many things I could find for my nephew but decided to play it cautious with one item due to the inconsistencies.

Picked up some unmarked booties £3.50 scanned £3.50
Went thru till at £3.50, even had a big red sale thingy on it.
Cashier commented that the item wasn’t included, I said I didn’t mind as it’s only 70p knowing full well I could claim R&R

    Checked my receipt
Discount had been applied at checkout.
Kept the booties as it gave me an excuse to visit my brother for a cuddle with the baby :j

Oh well, better luck next time.

It's an R&R. If the price on the shelf is less than that on the item, then you should pay the lower of the two. Just say 'I thought it would take the pound off at the till' and you should get the R&R.

    Hope that helps.

  • Thanks Jamesiebabie, especially for the "I thought it would take the pound off at the till" Very clever.

No problems. If I can't visit a store due to a half ban, then I'm more than happy to help others.
