Eric, does a gym workout affect your weight measurements? I drink water the whole time I'm in the gym, and have more when I get back home, so don't think any shed while working out would make me any lighter, but I wondered from your post about the retaining water. I weigh in a couple of hours or so after a gym workout, but could change my days if it's going to skew my result at all each week?

Drinking and eating has a huge effect on our weight, a mug of tea can add 0.6 of a lb and a pint adds 1.25 lbs. If your like me you drink more than you sweat.

This is why I weight myself in the morning before eating or drinking anything after my ablutions to try and minimise the randomness of eating and drinking.

Exercise can also cause inflammation of the muscles which will result in some fluid retention. You would expect this when you first start to exercise but it should normalise after a few weeks as your muscles adjust to the work, except with heavy resistance training where the whole point is to tear down the muscle and force it to rebuild (hopefully bigger) so you would expect some water retention for a day or two after
