I never put two and two together, I know the stomach can expand if you constantly overeat, so by that logic, if the new 'smaller' stomach via surgery is constantly over stuffed than it will expand also, and continue to do so until it reaches pre surgery size.

I also somewhat disapprove of the alli, my understanding is it reduces fat absorbtion, now I doubt it can pick and choose what is healthy fat and what isn't. I don't agree with the party line of 'low fat = weightloss' way too simplified and I don't think is healthy.

We seam to be able to expand our skin by many many feet so who knows how big we can expand our stomach. But even if you do not expand it you can certainly eat a very high cal diet still, they often turn into contant grazers nibbling on energy dense foods and can still eat 4-5k cals a day.

Apparently it can get really painful to overeat with a gastric band, but it is possible, I know of someone who got the surgery, didn't change their eating habits and then 'broke' the band

I agree with your comments re. Alli - you will get no healthy fats and that just ain't good. A small amount of good fat is essential.

Am also with you on the 'all or nothing' - if I 'fail' a tiny bit that will be me done for the week, scoffing junk and feeling bad about myself.

Its about relearning healthy eating habits after a reasonable period of time your attitude to food does change and then you can have the odd thing maybe once or twice a month especially if your in maintenance, but its critical imo to understand that for some reason we have developed messed up food relationships.

As for the whole low fat nonsense, we ran around for 2.5 million years clubbing stuff to death and eating fat, lots and lots of it, we need it. 35% of all my calories comes from fats and oils and i do not seam to be having any problems with loosing my weight.

I'm intrigued what 32 seconds on the plank is all about?

Puds, the plank is a yoga/pilates position that takes a lot of 'core' strength to hold in place. The target is to hold it for a minute or more at a time. I do 3 x reps of 1 minute, although I usually don't get a full minute the last time, but I do shudder a lot with the effort!

If i join here i can at least write a diary and keep on top of things!!

Also does anyone else here use Alli? i was thinking of looking into it. What are the general thoughts? i dont know anything about it yet.

Bufger - Post your food diary here, no worries. I put mine up to keep myself in check, and also for others following the same plan (Slimming World) to see what I'm eating, and how/if I'm sticking to the plan. I find it useful to see what other's eat on a daily basis, as a way to gauge whether they're eating a healthy balanced diet to achieve weightloss, or are following a faddy super low calorie diet, that will starve the weight off you... but only for the short-term

lots of contributors have already commented on Alli. A friend of mine had something similar prescribed by the GP, and the effects were to have the orange oily sludge of excess oil finding their way out of you, with no control over it!! It just makes me think of the bright orange greasy oil you get in some mediterranean meals, that sits on the plate... urgh!

Well I was a complete twonk and totally forgot to post my weight loss yesterday. I'll save it, and add it on to next week's instead. I had a busy old day yesterday; shopping, running eldest son to an interview for a p/t job, then the gym - for another workout with Beelzibub - and then coming back to do dinner.

I allowed myself a 'flexi' day yesterday, and had a treat of a KFC for my lunch. I just had a salad and syn-free quiche (no pastry) for tea. The KFC was delicious, and far lower in SW syns than I'd anticipated, so I can do damage limitation for that in less than 2 days, which is marvellous. We had a lovely day out just mooching around, and then went to the gym together. I'm really pleased with how the gym is going now. I found it harder going before Christmas, but maybe I was just too tired, or distracted with other stuff for it to go well? Either way, I've been able to increase some of my weights by over 10kg. I've set myself mini-targets to improve on each month if possible. Doing another abs workout has actually stopped my aching muscles from hurting anymore, so that's a relief... I felt like a cripple before I went again!

Food plan today is : Extra Easy

B - banana, apricot, Weetabix Oaty bar [HeB]
L - leftover small bowl of cottage pie, ketchup (1 syn)
    D - 3 l/f sausages (1.5 syns), mash, broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, gravy (2 syns)
    Milk - [HeA]
Total syns = 4.5 (from an allowance of 15)

No exercise done today, but I had a surprise visitor instead, which was even better.:T

Here's my food diary for the day (SW green day = 2 x HE A and B allowed)

Brekkie: pot of tea with 125ml semi skim milk (1/2 HEA1)
57g wholemeal bread (HEB2) with 1 tsp flora light (1 syn) and 2 scrambled eggs (free)

Lunch: Baked potato (free) with beans (free) and 21g low fat cheddar (other 1/2 HEA1)
    Snack: cherries and grapes (free)

Dinner: Veggie 'cottage pie' made with lentils, carrots, onion, veg stock, potato, and 42g low fat cheddar (HEA2)
    Dessert: Weightwatcher dessert yogurt (free)

Only had 1 syn and need another HEB!!
So unlike me - usually I hit 15 syns easily and run out of HE allowance before lunch! Lol!

Well done hitting the gym sary - I haven't got that far yet. Need to go for a bike ride at the weekend to get back into it then I can start cycling to the gym again.
Need to get my work finished then might do my Davina DVD for a bit before dinner. Or watch TV and use my little stepping machine.

One thing that I would reccommend, whatever plan you are doing, is to get a set of measuring spoons. I got a little silver set in MrT's and it's eye opening to see how much 1 tsp of flora, ketchup, etc, really is versus what I was estimating!!!

one of the best core exercises apart from maybe lifting heavy, all strength radiates out from your core

    Ugh I hate the plank.
In all the exercise classes I used to go to before I moved they used to make us do that and then do it sideways and lift one leg up - I was wobbling all over the place and always ended up in a heap on the floor.
I have no 'core muscles' I swear my insides are like jelly!!

Haha, yes Betty, I'm not so good on the sideways one, but am getting better.

My Bf tried to get me to use one of the half-moon exercise balls (the ones with the flat base), then go into the plank position, elbows on it, then go up onto one hand, then the other, alternating, so it was like up on hand, down on elbow, in rotation. OMG, the ball thing is too bouncy for that, and I just kept falling over, apart from the fact that I don't have enough upper body strength to push myself up with one hand at a time.... I'm sure my BF thinks I'm another bloke sometimes, the things he asks me to attempt in there.

Killer of the week so far has been squats, with weights on the Smiths machine.... I think I have more of them to do tomorrow :( they will help to give me a perky butt and strengthened leg muscles though, so I'll persevere.

For anyone reading this, who doesn't know me off MSE, and thinking I'm some kind of lycra clad gym demon, I'm definitely not! I'm a middle-aged mum of 4, with a wobbly bum, & belly.... I chose my avatar pic for a reason y'know.... hang on, didn't Lynda La Hughes used to dress in lycra? Anyway, she shouldn't have, that's the point!
