Lose Weight 31

Did any of catch a program called "10 things you need to know about losing weight" that was on last night? It was most likely a repeat but had Michael Mosley (you'd recognise him if you saw him) presenting. He's listed as a medical journalist. It was all based on new/not so new medical/scientific research rather than hocus pocus diet plans.
Hi Pollomc,
I watched it not long ago on BT Vision (on the 'TV' section, think it's still there if anyone has 'Vision'). I remember watching it a couple of years ago but watched it again anyway as I found it really interesting, It's nice to see someone actually testing dieting theories before recommending them!
Just logging my day's efforts before I try for an early night (not likely, but I definitely need to try and catch up on my sleep).
Breakfast - Porridge with sultanas
Snack - Banana
Lunch - Chinese chicken stir fry
Snack - Another graze box section (limiting myself to one a day!).
Dinner - Tortilla basket with chicken and spinach salad, two 'celebrations' chocs.
That comes to 1734 cals. Although over target food wise, I'm happy with it as I've been pretty active today, a lot of housework and I've walked for around an hour and a half in total (briskly, in the pouring rain
), I've also managed another exercise session on the bike that came to 400 cals.
So, another good day; I'm trying to resist the urge to weigh myself as I want a nice suprise at the end of the week, although it is tempting, especially as I'm using my Wii balance board as scales which encourages you to do it everyday.
Right, I'm off to bed. Night everyone!0 -
Pollo - cos this is mse i reckon you'd be better with this one instead!

purple skies - big hi to you :-) welcome to the gang
purdita - everlean pills? never heard of them! what do they claim to do? I'm quite sceptical about all diet pills! Also just wondered about the alpen - do you eat that because its your breakfast of choice (if so then thats fair enough) or is it because it's muesli and so it must therefore be the healthy option? (its not!)
pollo if the lodger ever puts down the tv remote then i'll make sure i put that top 10 programme on planner.
mazza sleeping at work! i have a photo on my phone of a postie parked up in a van fast asleep! it must be tough starting work every day so very very early. I cant even work tradional hours without having to stop for a nap. Thats one of the main reasons i have to be self employed!
Big Hi to any newer newbies that I've missed and "thanks for coming back" to any older newbies too.

"I tried every diet in the book. I tried some that weren’t in the book. I tried eating the book. It tasted better than most of the diets."0 -

had a large bowl of Alpen mid morning. 4 onion rings,
I've also taken two lots ( 4 in total) of the EAS Everlean pills I bought a while back from Approved foods!!....Has anyone here tried them?
I normally eat breakfast earlier, and would have a snack at lunchtime but after the christmas hols,
Do you think I will lose weight by eating these type of meals and cutting out the rubbish....or should I be following some type of set meal plan?
Alpen - you have to be careful with it has a mass of added sugar, even the reduced sugar one has a lot of added sugar, i believe jordans does not have any added sugar
http://www.jordanscereals.co.uk/products/cereals/muesli/natural-muesli
The EAS pills contain
· Both fast and slow release caffeine and other ingredients for sustained energy and fat burning
· Cayenne pepper to raise the body’s metabolism
· Theobromine – a special fat-burning ingredient derived from chocolate
caffeine messes with your blood sugar levels big time and can cause carb cravings, i avoid it completely, the pepper you can buy for pennys and use to taste as you like, too much theobromine is poisonous apparently, typically these types of pills thou only have small amounts of the active ingredient to prevent the company from being sued in case of bad side effects and you would be lucky to get 30-50 cals extra a day burnt from eating them especially if you drink tea and coffee anyway. Chilli and Green tea also have a small calorie overhead. Personally I wouldnt waste my money on any of these "magic bullet" solutions they are not needed.
The amount of theobromine found in chocolate is small enough that chocolate can, in general, be safely consumed by humans. However, theobromine poisoning may result from the chronic or acute consumption of large quantities, especially in the elderly
The best and safest way to speed up your metabolism is too exercise, this not only increases lean muscle mass which increases your resting metabolic rate (you burn more calories sitting on your bum) but resistance type training actually accelerates it for up to 48 hours as the body "repairs" (whilst sitting on your bum lol)
It has been shown in trials that eating fires up the metabolism and eating little and often keeps it working at its optimum level, so it would appear to be a good idea to eat early and have a mid morning snack.
Its not necessary to follow a meal plan but it is critical imo to keep a food diary otherwise you just guessing at how much you eat, and just about all of us underestimate how much we eat.0 -

Alpen is delicious. I used to eat it all the time. Jordans, the low sugar alpen and shop own brand varieties just dont taste the same... so although they are all described as mueslis, to me, they are as different as having a bowl of pudding compared to a bowl of acorns.
Im not saying alpen is right and the others are wrong, if anything muesli should be more like the acorns than the pudding and so its alpen that should really describe itself as something else.
maybe if i covered them in custard?0
