ok FS i STS then I put on +2 then lost -1 so you subtract 4 then times by 3 then add the root of 7 divided by 16 and 3/4 and finally add the number you first thought off
so that should be pretty straight forward then :rotfl:
its a loss of 5.2lb for a total of 184.0 and 5.2lb in phase II :cool:0 -

Welcome all the newbies
here are my TOP TIPS for weight loss
1) Ultimately you control what you put in your mouth, there are no excuses (and your looking at the master excuse maker
), there can be a lot of factors that influence your eating habits but you have to accept its you opening your mouth as the last factor.
2) Dieting does not work, it just creates a circle of yo-yo'ing, it has to be a lifestyle change forever otherwise you just go back to your old habits and guess what you put on weight before and you will do it again ...
3) Its all down to calories in and calories out, there is no magic bullet. However if you do not eat enough you will shut down your metabolism and go into starvation mode which is a bad thing. Its important to eat plenty (avoid energy dense foods) and eat every 3-4 hours. You should NEVER be hungry.
4) There is now a lot of good research coming through showing that low fat diets are utter bull pat and infact unhealthy, we spent the best part of 2.5 million years eating fat as a major part of our diets we are designed for it.
5) The magic bullet
Insulin control, for most overweight people fluctuating insulin / glucose levels causes hunger and cravings (if you crave sweet foods / carby foods this is YOU). The most important part of me being able to loose 180lbs in 47 weeks was getting my insulin under control, I did this by eating only 33% of my diet as carbs and those carbs where all slow release low GI.
6) Try to eat whole unprocessed foods where you can, processed foods are generally absorbed faster and less filling and can contain a lot of carp additives ...
7) Protein in every meal is critical, it helps to resist muscle loss from being on a reduced calorie diet but most importantly it is an appetite suppressant.
8) Keep a food diary, its critical to know what you are eating and how active you are. You cant guess it. It also teaches portion control.
9) Do not drink your calories EVER its just wasted calories, except milk which you need some every day as its nutrient rich.
10) Treats are ultimately self defeating, there just wasted calories, they reinforce your lack of control over eating, they keep your insulin / glucose spiking, and will probably just put you back into your old eating lifestyle which you put on weight. After about 3 weeks of modifying your diet most cravings should be gone if you go for a reduced carb / low GI carb lifestyle which makes the long term far far easier. You have to decide do I really want to loose weight, and if you do you have to take control of what you eat.
NO MORE EXCUSES0 -
This morning, 72.6 kg, 11 st 6.1 lbs.
That's 1.3 kg down since last Wednesday.
I did get down to 72.6 kg on 10th December, then was up again into the 73s 2 days later, then of course we were away for nearly a week over Christmas when I couldn't weigh or record. I was back up to 73.9 kg the day after we got back.
Thank you, Eric, for your comprehensive list of 'top tips' above. This really does say it all. And about how WE are the only ones responsible for what we put into our mouths. Yesterday I read about a man who started to put weight on when he had a heartbreak/romance breakdown in his mid-20s, then his father died and his mother became ill. Well, how many other people could say the same thing? Those type of things will happen to most of us at some stage in life, especially the parent dying/parent becoming ill. Who can escape such events, and is the appropriate response to gain so much weight as to become completely immobile, unable even to wipe own bottom?
In addition, there are 'expectations'. You know the kind of thing. Going to in-laws/parents at the weekend, MIL or mother is a devoted cook, will be expected to eat...and so on. MIL will be hurt - food as reward, food as bribe.
Yesterday I saw a TV ad for Saga cruises - yes, it's that time of year for holiday ads, never mind the rise in VAT and everyone watching what we spend! Gin and tonic ready for you at 4 pm every day. What were you saying about 'empty calories', Eric? Gin and tonic every day???

I'd like to record a loss of 1lb since Saturday, not as much as I'd hoped. Especially as I'd walked 5miles yesterday!
PS. I counted calories for yesterday, and I'd taken in 1280, and still put on a half pound from day before that! Not Rachmaninov

Hows it going team mate betty??? Foodwise im not doing too bad. I had a tuna sandwhich for lunch and ive eaten sausage mash and beans for dinner, although i only eat half of it because when the sausage is gone i dont eat anthing else! Im getting peckish already, but im going to resist!!!
Not going too badly thanks team mate! Stuck to SW plan yesterday, but then got a bit 'totm' feeling and started crying about a load of nonsense and then ate some choc - but I have counted the syns and can compensate by having a very low syn day today! Haven't done any exercise yet - the sun is out today so I feel bad for not popping up to the gym on my bike - perhaps I'll do it tomorrow. It's my birthday on Sat so I'm trying not to be too hard on myself until after the weekend, then I have to shape up!Welcome purdita!! I'm not following a plan either, im just trying to move more, eat smaller portions and omit some bad things! One thing i've achieved this week is to make myself not eat everything on my plate, i've always done it and there isnt much need! I figured it doesnt matter if i get a bit hungry in the evening, i never wake up hungry in the morning and that cant be good.
I am doing the same - one of my new years resolutions is to leave a forkfull of food on my plate and ignore that 'one more mouthful' voice in my head. I dont finish my meal coz I'm hungry, like a normal person, it's always being shovelled in cos I'm greedy and loving the flavour!! Needs to stop!
Weirdly, my mother always used to tell me it's best to go to bed hungry. No idea why tho!I've noticed that a lot of you are on the SW plan, how does that fare price wise? I always thought that diet plans would limit you in what you could eat (thus pushing the price up) but there seems to be a lot of choice and a wide range of 'free foods'.
the SW plan can be cost effective as the Green day free foods are cheap staples like pasta, rice and cous cous, potatoes etc. But you can eat as much as you like.
It can get a bit expensive with all the fruit and veg - but if you live near a market or Lidl/Aldi you can get some good deals. I reduce the cost by only buying a few different varieties of fruit and veg per week (eg this week I have red peppers, clementines and green beans -next week will be leeks, apples and broccoli)
OK WI results show a loss - end of Dec I was exactly 11stone and this morning I am 10st 11lb - so a LOSS of 3lb for me please fred!:j
So my start weight for N v S will be 10st 11lb please, fred
Well done margaretclare , Frogletina and eric on your losses, and anyone else who has lost this week :T:T:TBetty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....
Why Put Off Until Tomorrow What You Can Do Today? :A0 -
Lolly -Im glad its going well. Dont want to put a downer on things but it wont always be this easy - especially if you keep buying boxes of chocolates for presents and then opening them SO STOP THAT AT ONCE!!!
Lol, Don't worry Puddings I gave myself a firm slap on the wrist yesterday!
I also realised that eating chocolates means that I have to do more exercise than usual - and I'm way too lazy to do that!:rotfl:
Well I'm glad 'The Boy' is finally back at school, not only do I get a lot of lovely peace and quiet but I also get a 40 min walk every day... one that I can't worm my way out of!0 -

Oh, that doesn't sound too expensive then, fruit and veg is definitely a budget killer though. I have to get a wide variety each week as DS hates most of the things I like (which is just about everything!), and I hate most of the things he likes (like carrots and grapes, bleurgh!). He also changes his mind on an almost daily basis, which doesn't help matters!0 -
Morning guys,
Well I have a dilemma for weigh in this morning. I remembered to get on the scales (and the bowels were very kind to me 1st thing and helped!) and I've got a loss, but it's quite a bit more than my loss was on Monday evening at the SW weigh in. I just don't know which one is fair to post? I have been back on the SW wagon for over a week now though, so I'm not surprised it's starting to kick-in more.
The SW one on Monday night was a 0.5lb loss, but this morning's is a 4lb loss. I know we're always lighter in the morning, but I also know my scales are accurate against the club ones (both my son and I check each time we go to class). Hmmmm what to do?
OK, I've deliberated and decided I'm going to go with the bigger loss as my result this week, because I think that way I feel like I'm following the same weight measure I've always used for this thread, and I'll see it as my 'baseline' result, and I can use it as an added incentive each week for my SW weigh in on Mondays. So, put me down for a 4lb loss this week please Fred, and add that on to the (winning) Southern Stunner's score.
Well done Margaretclare, Betty, Eric et al.
Frogletina - your body weight fluctuates every day, throughout the day, so weighing yourself so often is a big mistake. You won't see the effects of walking within a day either, it can take a week or more to see any positive or negative results... which is why when we've over-indulged and it doesn't go on one week, we know that chances are it will catch up with us the following week instead. Just keep doing what you've been doing, stick with it, and the results will keep coming in week on week. Well done for losing 1lb this week, that's still a fab result since Saturday.
Good luck everyone. One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
