  • Hey Guys,
My weight loss diet is officially starting tomorrow. I joined SW with the free registration offer which is currently in Bella magazine. I am actually really looking forward to it. I am doing the Green Choice plan as I am pescetarian although mainly vegetarian. Does anyone on here have any experience on the green choice plan?

    Many Thanks

I'm with you lolly on wanting to moneysave, and trying to find the cheapest ways to eat. I think with the increase in basic food prices (have you seen the price hike on flour?? it's shocking!) has really been felt by us all, but more so those who have to watch the pennies. If you're comfortably off you probably won't notice that Sainsburys put up their large oats from 89p to £1.35 within 1 week last year, but I blimming did and it really does have a big impact on a family's budget.

I was raised in a 'waste not, want not' household, where you were encouraged to clear your plate, and if you didn't, then someone else did it for you! I've been working very hard to retrain not only myself, but my own children, that it's fine to leave food on our plates, so long as you don't then think you're going to have something else after dinner to fill the gap, because you just got bored of eating it, or want something sweet instead. I've never really got that message to my brain that said I'd had enough, I tended to rely on my stomach to decide it was about to explode, or I was going to be sick from over-eating. Part of the battle for me has been to to learn to just stop, after I've eaten an amount that I know is enough, say a plate full (but now a smaller plate). I've often thought it would be great to follow around a skinny person for a few days, and eat exactly what they eat, and see if it's really any different to me... I guess I'd need to do the same activity as them too to have a real measure.

    Anyway, enough rambling.

    Food today:
B - banana, ff Activia yogurt
L - Morrisons Eat Smart carbonara pasta (1 syn), added mushrooms & lean ham
D - beef casserole. Included: swede, carrots, onions, mushy peas, stock made from bovril, thickened with some cornflour (1 syn)
    HeA: 250ml milk
HeB: 2 x alpen light bars

That's a day well under my syns, which should be between 10-15, but I really didn't feel hungry enough to have more. I'll try harder tomorrow to eat more. Hah! never thought I'd hear the day I said that.

Ah well maybe the Chancellor has done us all a favour by putting up VAT, eh?
One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home

    Hi Everyone
I've bitten the bullet and started a diet yesterday.
I'm not following any plan as such, but hoping that by cutting out all the rubbish ie: biscuits, puddings, peanuts etc. and eating smaller portions, I can lose a couple of stone by the summer.
I suffer with balance problems so find certain excercises a problem.... but I do walk my dog as often as I can.. although the recent weather has curtailed this lately!
I live in the back of beyond and there are no nearby slimming groups and I don't think I will get the support (or kick up the backside!) I'll need to keep me motivated, by joining an online programme.
I've been reading through some of the posts and can see you are a friendly bunch....so can I join you please?
My husband says he will leave me if I don't stop shopping......... God I will miss that man.

Welcome purdita!! I'm not following a plan either, im just trying to move more, eat smaller portions and omit some bad things! One thing i've achieved this week is to make myself not eat everything on my plate, i've always done it and there isnt much need! I figured it doesnt matter if i get a bit hungry in the evening, i never wake up hungry in the morning and that cant be good.

I find the hardest bit when you go to bed and feel peckish. My usual instinct would be to make some toast and a cup of tea. It is possible still to get to sleep without it though!

I would like to join the 5lbs challenge, the Southerners (this time - what was I last time???), the Women, the Englanders and any other group to help me with the motivation, please. Thanks fred.

You were Northern last time (just let me know which team you want to be in when you pm me your weight), Women and Englanders will have to wait a month or 2 for now :p

Just a reminder for those who haven't already done so please pm me your starting weights for the N v S challenge before the chart is done tomorrow night - but I will accept any latecomers who want to join in the first week.

I have that problem too, however it does help me to stop overeating - for example I can't eat all the biscuits cos i can't afford another packet! :rotfl:

That made me chuckle! I guess that's a positive way of looking at the situation!

    Hi Beanielou and Sary,

Yes, it's definitely a struggle keeping within budget when buying healthy food. I think I've blown it this week as far as my budget's concerned, although have been making a few changes - a bit more frozen fruit and veg instead of fresh, etc. I think that I just need to be a bit more creative in the kitchen; I've been reading through some of the cooking threads and it's amazing how far some people can make their meals go, I think someone made 8 meals out of a pack of mince - I struggle to get 3, lol!

I've noticed that a lot of you are on the SW plan, how does that fare price wise? I always thought that diet plans would limit you in what you could eat (thus pushing the price up) but there seems to be a lot of choice and a wide range of 'free foods'.

Today I encountered my first hiccup of the year... it involved a full box of cocopops and a pint of milk... not quite as bad as the crunchy nut advert where they just pour the milk into the box, I did actually use a bowl, albeit a large one  Anyway I watched some BL tv and got all remotivated then went for a 4 mile hilly dog walk and wore my 20kg vest so now am definitely pooped .Hopefully it's burned off some of that cereal.

Purdita - You've got a dog : I like you already :) I sometimes wonder whether the people running slimming classes really do give a stuff at all, or whether they just do it for the money. The good thing about getting advice and support on this thread is that its totally free and you know that we are all here for the right reason!
KKsweety - big hi and welcome to you chuck
Lolly -Im glad its going well. Dont want to put a downer on things but it wont always be this easy - especially if you keep buying boxes of chocolates for presents and then opening them SO STOP THAT AT ONCE!!!
Sary oooh you're a wise woman and you dont need brasso cos your halo is almost a permanent fixture! Anyway this pasta for £4... do you buyit by the sack load, cos the last pasta that I bought was only about 30p a bag?
Pollo have got to say that your cup size comment got me initially too! there were some blokes on biggest loser that would have been at least a d cup! One lost 34lbs in a week, so with a vast amount of effort it just shows what's possible :-)

Anyway, i'll do anything to beat a northerner, im quite competitive on the sly
Vicki, you can try kick my a55 anytime you want but you'll have to catch me first. Quick! Race you to the cake shop. Ready.... Steady...
I know what you both mean about eating late at night, its the worst time of day. I cut out breakfast and added a midnight meal, because those are the times of day when I'm least and most hungry.

Hi Darkshines - oh the old "im starting tomorrow" thing! We'll be watching to see if you're still starting "tomorrow" next time or not.:D If you are then we know that theres something fishy going on. (erm, with pescatarians I guess theres often something fishy going on anyway?):rotfl:
Romylou it WILL be making a difference - just be patient!

In the end, I took it all out on the counter and ate the bl00dy lots of it just to get rid of it and stop it from "calling me" all the time. Done.
blimey! do you hear the food talking too? glad its not just me but also sad that you get it as well. I joke with people that im biscuitzophrenic when the food talks in my head!

I did weigh myself today and I don't want to post my gain as such, although i could cope with adjusting my total lost
Me neither, I couldnt post last weeks huge gain, I pm'd Fred with my new total lost instead, she's very obliging. Don't know what we'd do without her!

Newbies, pls remeber that Fredsnail posts a weekly chart on Wednesday night so let her know your weigh ins before then if you want to be included on it. Good luck with the challenges everybody... even the Stunners!

Anyone who wishes the amount lost to be adjusted for the chart tomorrow instead of confessing to a gain over Christmas send a pm to my confessional message box.

If you can please post your results by 10.30 that would be great - my brothers visiting so it'll be a slower job to do the chart while he's here (an extra distraction). If you will be later posting your result let me know I can make a start with everyone elses and then finish the chart when i've got your result.

I will log all the starting weights for the N v S challenge - and providing I've received them from all the declared team members before I post the chart - I will post the overall starting weights for the teams.

To everyone who is new this week - your name will be added to the chart but may not show until you post a result - sometimes I have to hide the names of the people who have not posted a result so that I can fit everyone on.

    Good luck to everyone
