Our Christmas' are nuts and I love them for that reason. We normally have people round for drinks and nibbles on Christmas Eve from 3pm ish onwards but last year the childless couples had one too many and we had to ask them to leave around 1130. This meant kids only getting to bed then, over excited and so Santa was unable to visit until approx 2am when they were safely asleep, after a few very near misses!! This year we are having people for drinks the day before Christmas eve ! Christmas eve will be spent getting ready for the big day, driving round at night looking at the OTT decorations and looking for Santa then to my cousins for some drinks. My folks and brother come round to my house once the kids waken on Christmas morning to see them get their presents and we make brekkie for everyone. Church is after that and then back to mums for drinks with some friends and family. We then head home and OH family come to ours for some drinks (hmm, I'm sensing a "theme" here!!) Dinner is at mums because she has more room than anyone - there are 12 of us for dinner - including my aunt from my mums side of family and cousins. Boxing day follows a similar pattern but is spent with family from my dads side. Lots of family, lots of little ones and lots of noise!!
I love it. My grandmother died on Christmas day 17 years ago so we all tend to stick with my mum to help her through it. In some ways I'd love to avoid the constant to-ing and fro-ing and let the kids stay at home and play with their toys but then there would only be the 4 of us and I dont think it would be as much fun.
Oops, sorry, this has turned into "at home with the Honey's at Christmas" - sorry for the waffle!! You can tell I'm feeling better cant youApparently I'm back to being cheeky and pass remarkable and so DH has declared me "fit" to resume wife and mother duties :rotfl:

And a quick question for Lois - saw your poist on the recipe thread for the mince pies - how come they can't be made in advance? I've got a do on saturday and i was comntemplating making some on friday to take along - will they just disintegrate? And tallgirl - I made it! yay got week 1 of going to the gym!
Hi KPC - I think the reason the mince pies can't be made in advance is because filo pastry goes soggy

Hi all
Hugs to everyone feeling ill, but only virtual ones cos I don't want to catch anythingHope you feel better soon.
I can't believe it's December tomorrow! I'm nowhere near being organised for Christmas, and I know what the shops are going to be like from now until the big day.. I haven't even started on the cards yet.
JenI - do Americans show nutritional information on their food? If they do, it should be fairly straightforward to calculate syn values, but I have this awful feeling that they'll do something completely alien. (No offence to anyone reading from the USA!)
See y'all tomorrow

That's what i was wondering too...I'm not positive they even need to label all the ingrediants on their products. And i wonder how much wholewheat is in their 'wheat' bread. If I think about this too much I could get quite daunted!
PS I see why everyone loves Vegas so much now. Do you go for the gambling, Lois, or for something else?0 -
Morning all
1st December - can't believe it - time to get all Danish and get the Advent Candle, the Advent Calendar and the Advent Ring out. We Danes love Christmas and I usually go to Denmark and celegrate it with my family in my mum big house in the country with snow, church, real candles, carols and lots of food and drink. However this year I shall be in South Africa with my brother in law, so it will be just the 3 of us. I will take candles, advent calendar, christmas beers and some stuff to make Glogg (like mulled wine).
It will be strange but at least I avoid the mince pies, christmas pudding, fruitcake all of which I really don't like but eat to be polite.
SOrry to sound down on Christmas but I feel quite cool about it, done all my presents just got the cards to do and we don't fly out until Friday, bliss 3 weeks off can't wait.Save £12k in 25 No 49

Ooh you lucky thing. I'd love to go away for the period leading up to Christmas Day.
I do enjoy the day itself, but the lead-up drives me mad. The local supermarkets have been playing carols for the last 3 weeks, loads of houses have trees and deccies up and yesterday we had the Christmas market - it's all too much, too soon. By the time Christmas actually arrives, I'm bored to tears with it (bah, humbug :rotfl: )
We have a mad scramble at Christmas too Honey, but just on the one day. Mum and Dad come for the day along with my son, both daughters and the one son-in-law, who's parents have never made much of Christmas, so he's fascinated at the way we carry on!
My son and younger daughter both choose to spend the day with us and apart from their 'other halves', but fortunately, the 'other halves' are happy to spend the day with their families too, so it all works out nicely. They turn up about 10am and from then to about 9pm it's a free-for-all as far as food and drink is concerned, the noise levels are incredible, it's a good job we don't have any neighbours!
I have laminated Christmas menus for both green and red days but I'm afraid I completely ignore them on both Christmas and Boxing day and spend the entire time stuffing myself, as well as the turkey :rotfl:I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
Sounds just like it should be consultant0

Yeah it does sound nice but for me Christmas Eve is the big thing, when it is dark and snowing outside, the real candles are on the tree, everything just seems so much for magical. If I have christmas here in the UK my someone from my family is usualy kind enough to come over but if I am on my own so to speak I feel so home sick on the 24th. My English Family is happy to celebrate on the 24th and have often come with me to Denmark so I suppose I am lucky.
My sister always used to have xmas with my mum but now she wants to have it at her own house and always invite my dad (they are divorced). My mum is actually on her own with her partner this year but they are going to Spain. I feel a bit bad about that but I had planned to go to SA long ago.
Never mind at least none of them are on their own.
Consultant it sounds ideal for your family that they spend the day apart but what happens if they have kids? Honey your Christmas does sound fun but hectic. I love going to church too on Christmas eve. Everyone knows everyone in my old small village and we get invited for a drink with the vicar every year.Save £12k in 25 No 49
