I've not thought about it in great deal, I know I want in on a club. I have no information left from my previous dieting. I shall have to research which diet and return, my apologies to you I thought this was a club! Is this thread just for support to which ever external club your at. I wanted to join so I can lose some weight without the wife's knowledge. I would like to surprise her with a slimmer me without the constant watching every mouth full.
Back to the drawing board, then I will return.0 -
Dave_liverpool wrote:are men allowed in? I seem to have put a stone on this summer and 1 on last winter too! Don't always have access to the internet and I'm certainly not going to a class, went to one years ago and was seen as the class scapegoat and its not easy to blend into the background.
I have a fairly sedentary job and am stuck in a rut with my food, love my crisps.
Hi Dave and welcome. We have Suggs (our token man. lol) as well, so you're not alone.
I'm sorry you were made to feel uncomfortable at a class. I have a man in my group who is spoiled to death by all the women. He gets the loudest applause when he loses weight and he practically has to fight off the cuddles of commisseration when he gains :rotfl:
You can make your own potato crisps in just the same way as Flis described for veggie crisps. Or, the way I do them - slice potatos with a potato peeler (this makes them very thin), spray a plate with Fry Light, lay the poato pieces in a single layer around the rim of the plate. Spray again with Fry Light and microwave for a few minutes. Be careful about timing as they go from limp to burnt in a matter of seconds! They're gorgeous, but tend to be eaten too fast.
There are loads of recipes if you follow the link from the very first post on this thread. Most of them are very easy and quick to make, and all of them are healthy (some SW, some WW, but all low fat).I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
Nooo, don't go Dave. We will give you all the support you need to go it alone, but how will you lose weight without your wife's knowledge - unless you do the cooking of course!!!I let my mind wander and it never came back!0

Hi Housemouse and Dave - more newcomers! I'm starting to lose track very quickly here.
Housemouse, do you walk much at all? It is the simplest (and cheapest) form of exercise but really remains one of the best. Buy yourself a cheap pedometer (you get them for about £5 - or free with certain cereals etc) and set yourself a target. If the recommended 10000 steps a day seems too scary, just wear one without thinking about it for a couple of days, work out your 'normal' average then seek to better it slightly each day. 4000 steps is better than 3000, and 5000 is better again etc. You will actually be pleasently surprised how much they clock up - I can do 1000 just walking round and round the supermarket doing a family shop! Just try to get yourself ever so slightly out of breath whilst walking, rather than ambling along
Dave, I agree that the lower fat crisps are a good alternative but you do still have to watch the amount you eat. (They are a real downfall of mine, too).
I stated taking little amounts of dry cereals to work and eating them like crisps whilst at the desk. Also making myself never put more than one crisp at a time in my mouth - makes them last much longer. Alternatively could you try raw veg sticks with, perhaps, a LF dip like salsa?
Hope this helps - there are plenty of others to provide tips aroundhere.0 -
I agree with C31, Dave - don't vanish. With the amount of knowledge available on this site it is the perfect place to do your research! (I started to type the above post, stopped midway to make a coffee, then read your next post after posting above).
We come from various clubs on here - Slimming World, Weight Watchers, Rosemary conley and others, as well as a number of people 'doing their own thing' and just trying to generally swap the mars bar for an apple etc. I went to RC until the classes folded recently- now I have joined a gym for the exercise and will just try to eat healthily on my own at home.0 -
Sorry Dave, I feel really bad now, i hope I didn't put you off. We are all very friendly and supportive, as Consultant said you can use this site to get recepie ideas and other ideas from all of us. You don't have to follow a specific plan.
Katy - I didn't know the RC classes had folded, my friend used to do those. Is it all the classes or just your one?Sorting my life out to give a better life to my:heartsmil 2 gorgeous boys :heartsmil0 -
Hi KatyK
I try and walk 3 - 4 times a week prob only a mile a time, but it gets me out. I used to love my WW pedometer but it gave up the ghost. I have another so may take on holiday and see if I can walk off some off the US portion sizes.
many thanks for the warm welcomes.0 -
Hello Dave, welcome and stick around. This really is a good place for inspiration and information.
Well, if you begin to change your eating habits your wife will certainly notice... but she'll be happy the same! Really, it is much more satisfactory to see that the ones you love care for themselves more instead of having to goad them into action. When she realises your efforts she's going to be proud of you!'They can tak' oour lives but they cannae tak' oour troousers!'The Nac Mac Feegle0 -

Hi Flis
No it is only my class. The lady doing it had held the franchise for the whole city for the last 5 years but has decided she has had enough and surrendered it. unfortunately no one bought the franchise so now there are no RC classes in Aberdeen at all - they folded 2 weeks after I restarted! Typical, eh. Never mind - your friends classes should still be fine.0 -
Hi-de-Hi Campers!
Good to see that you are back on your feet (so to speak) Suggs. Glad the op went well. I wouldnt be worrying about the gym just yet, best to rest up until your knee is healed rather than head straight for the gym and do more damage. I'm trying to get this through to DH too.
Welcome to Dave and Housemouse. I think the others have said it all so I won't repeat it - but you are both very welcome here.
Katy - well done on the loss of pounds and inches. :T:T:T
Having a clear out today of my wardrobe - putting away all the summer things and getting out my winter stuff. So far everything that I have tried on (winter) has been too big :T What an excuse to buy more clothes!!
Being good today to make up for the chinese last night. I wish my Weigh in day wasnt a Monday - there really is no room for letting go over the weekend with a Monday WI. Making a pot of red pepper and sweet potato soup for lunch then off to mums for dinner. She's on SW too to should be ok there as long as I avoid dessert!0
