Hi all
just wondered if I could join in, I am off back to WW after a few years of weight gain. I have 2.5 stone to loose and want to do it by next year as I will be 40! and I want to be fab and 40. I really am very shallow also its affecting my health. So its weigh in tomorrow.0 -
Lois_Lane wrote:Hi Flis - your chinese sounds reasonably healthy - did you calculate how many points it would be on WW? It may not have been as bad as you think, and if you were good for the rest of the week you could still lose weight.
Do you go to WW classes?
I tried WW for a while, and the thing I liked about it was the website - their online food diary is excellent. I found the diet itself quite restrictive though, and I used to find myself constantly thinking about what and when I could eat next! They introduced the no-count plan after I stopped going, which I think might have suited me better.
Enjoy the fireworks. Roast chestnuts and hot chocolate are far better than burgers or hot dogs!

Hi Lois,
I used to go to WW classes, but have stopped now, just doing it by myself (can't really justify nearly a fiver a week for someone to weigh me when I have good scales at home!). Yeah worked out my points for the chinese, was 10 (not too bad) but the prawn crackers and wine were extra and took me a bit over my points that day.
The ww website is really good, I use it a lot, great recepie ideas on there and a nice chat forum.
It is wierd how different diets suit people in different ways, I found the SW diet too restrictive, on ww I know I can eat anything as long as I work the points out and cut down in other areas. So if I want a Bounty Bar, that is 7 points, so I can have something like a no point soup for lunch, then enjoy my chocolate knowing that I am sticking to my points! On SW how do you eat something that is more than 10 syns? I asked my leader when I went if I could save them up, like you can do with points, but she said no.
I did really enjoy the fireworks thanks, resisted the hot chocolate (I took a bottle of diet lemonade and drunk that instead) but I couldn't resist the roasted chestnuts, only had a very small bag tho! The only thing that spoilt it was Husband acting like a 3 year old ('I'm cold', 'My feet hurt', 'Is it going to be much longer'!!).Sorting my life out to give a better life to my:heartsmil 2 gorgeous boys :heartsmil0 -

Hi Housemouse, you are NOT shallow. Our self image and weight are all tied up along with our self esteem. If you feel good about your weight and the way you look you become more confident and happy (well I always do). Losing weight can have a big affect on the rest of your life and help you to achieve other things, as you think well I've lost weight, I wonder what else I can do?!
When abouts next year is your birthday? Are you going to a WW meeting or doing the diet yourself?Sorting my life out to give a better life to my:heartsmil 2 gorgeous boys :heartsmil0 -
Hi,
birtday is end of next October, so I have given myself a year to try and get healthy and sort out my relationship with food. I would like to have a healthy relationship with food and my weight. I want to stop using food as a crutch and my weight as an excuse not to do things in life. I did WW five years ago and lost 5 stone so I know it works and its a good option. Just need to get with the program really.0 -

It sounds like your goal is quite realistic, which is good. I have to tone my goals down, as I always want results too quickly!! (I have 8 stone to lose, would love to do it by our holiday in July next year, but that is probably a bit unrealistic!!)
I know what you mean about your relationship with food, that is the biggest part of the problem. I am just the same. I suffer from depression and just eat constantly when I am down. The trouble is that the food I want to eat then is all the food that is bad for me, that is why I have got myself so overweight in the first place.
I too have down ww before and enjoyed the diet, I lost 3 stone for my wedding and felt really good. That was 2 years ago and in the interim I have put that back on and another 3 stone!
Are you planning to do any exercise as well? I find that it makes me feel healthier and more determined to stick to the eating plan. Also I never eat my bonus points, so hopefully speeds up my weight loss a bit as well. Am currently going to the gym 3 times a week.
Well, I wish you loads of luck and please come on here and post regularly to let us know how you are doing.Sorting my life out to give a better life to my:heartsmil 2 gorgeous boys :heartsmil0 -
many thanks, I should exercise but I am lazy. I know I will do some but at the moment its not going to happen. I read a great quote on weight loss, it was some thing like you can be interested in the diet but you have to be commited for it to work. I am moving up to commited rather than interested. In a strange way I enjoy the limits of knowing what I can eat otherwise life turns into a food fest! I am off to the US for 4 days this week, so I am hoping to have some control and then its straight back to the points.0

Good luck in the U.S, it can be really hard over there. I know when we went to Florida there weren't many healthy choices to be had and the portion sizes were just enormous!
That is a good quote, I am always insterested in food and diets, but it is only the last couple of weeks I have become really commited to making this work.
Maybe once you have lost a bit of weight you will feel more fired up and ready to do a bit of exercise, even if it is just going for a couple of walks.Sorting my life out to give a better life to my:heartsmil 2 gorgeous boys :heartsmil0 -

Whatever suits you best is the plan to go with. At the end of the day, you will need to eat like this for the rest of your life if you are to maintain your slim figure.
However, with SW you could still eat the Bounty Bar. It is 13½ syns and you're allowed up to 15 every day. We don't recommend you save them all up for a splurge on Saturday night (this encourages binge eating), but there is nothing to say you can't be over a bit one day, and under a bit on another, so long as over the week you stay within the boundaries.
Overall, we all have to learn how to eat healthily, i.e. more filling, nutritious foods, and far less fatty or sugary things.
If we can get into these good habits then the battle to stay slim will be won!
Hello and welcome to housemouse. It is true, you do have to make a committment to losing weight, otherwise you will fall at the first hurdle.
Your target of 2½ stones in a year is easily attainable - go for it, and we'll be behind you all the way!!!
Oh, and have a wonderful holiday in the States!I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
are men allowed in? I seem to have put a stone on this summer and 1 on last winter too! Don't always have access to the internet and I'm certainly not going to a class, went to one years ago and was seen as the class scapegoat and its not easy to blend into the background.
I have a fairly sedentary job and am stuck in a rut with my food, love my crisps.0 -
Hi Dave,
Course blokes are allowed in. Welcome to the club. If you love crisps have you tried making vegetable crisps? Slice the vegetables really finely, lay them on a baking sheet spray with oil and bake. They taste really nice and much healthier and lower fat than crisps. Otherwise try some of the lower fat crisp alternatives, like Quavers.
Are you going to follow a specific diet or just a healthy eating plan?
Also - if you have a sedentary job can you get out and do any exercise in your lunch break. I am lucky my work is opposite a leisure centre, so I go to the gym in my lunch breaks, but you could try going for a brisk 30 minute walk a few times a week. Any exercise will help.Sorting my life out to give a better life to my:heartsmil 2 gorgeous boys :heartsmil0
