    Hi guys

I have been quite good last few days. I have just been to a 3 yr old birthday party and had some nibbles that i have included in today's points and have saved some points for later as I got a bit of birthday cake to bring home- looks yummy too.

How is everyone else feeling? Not sure what I have on this weekend but am sure i will be able to keep maintaining points and hopefully get that .05lb over goal off when I weigh in next Wed.

    Anyway have a lovely weekend

Thanks Honey and KPC - 6.5 syns well spent I'd say, it was yummy *licks lips*. No actual chocolate, but chocolate flavoured. :)

Can someone explain the SYNs and how it works?

    Hi Donna

You're allowed up to 15 syns a day on SW, and the idea of them is to give a bit of flexibility so that you can have foods that are not completely free, and so that you can have the occasional treat. People tend to have a certain thing that they use their syns for - some like chocolate, some like savoury snacks, some like alcohol. I tend to use mine for those little additions that make a meal more appetising - sauces, mayonnaise, gravy, wine(!) - and occasionally for a sweet treat. I was asking for the syn value of a cereal bar that took my fancy, and it turned out to be 6.5 syns, so as I haven't had any other syns today, I've still got a few left for a glass of wine later on :D

You can buy a book from SW with the syn values of virtually any basic or branded food you can buy - I call it the SW bible! - but as there are always new products coming on to the market it's never completely up to date. There's also the SW website, where you can search for branded goods, or work out the syn value if it isn't listed. You have to be a class member or sign up for SW online to access it, but there are quite a few people who post regularly here who will look things up for you if you ask.

Thanks JPT - I've got a busy weekend coming up, so sticking to SW is going to be a challenge. I bought a summerhouse on eBay so tomorrow DH and I are off to Chelmsford to dismantle it and bring it home. It's about a 150 mile round trip, so we're likely to be out most of the day. Then on Sunday we're off to the bike show at the NEC in Birmingham (DH is a born again biker  ) so we'll be limited to whatever food is on offer there. I'll just have to hope that there will be something other than burgers, chips and sandwiches. (Jacket spuds are always a good standby.)

We were planning to go on the bike, and I was a bit worried about keeping warm as it has turned cold so suddenly, but DH decided it wouldn't be very good for me to get cold as I've got a cold so we're going in the car :D

Have a good weekend yourself, whatever you do, and enjoy the birthday cake.

Helloooo, I'm back!! Go on, say you didn't notice I'd been gone, lol.

There's umpteen pages of posts since I last was here, and I'm too tired to read them all so please forgive me if I ignore anybodys questions or fascinating bit of news.

Been really busy for the last couple of days. Tuesday, of course, is group day so that's always a bit hectic. Wednesday, heaven knows what I was doing, but it took up all my time. Yesterday, my day off work (day to visit aging parents) I was rushing about from the crack of dawn, and then last night, my 2 daughters and I went to a Breast Cancer Charity evening. It was really good and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There was a singer on who was a Robbie look-alike and he was exactly like the real thing, phwoar! Then this morning had to go on a course which only gave me an hour to get home then back to work. I'm crackered now and ready for a restful weekend!

We had a tasting evening at the group this week, with winter-warming soups being the theme. Someone brought Pumpkin soup, another brought Butternut Squash and another brought Sweet Potato & Red onion. They were all really nice and I'll put the recipes for the latter 2 on the recipe thread. Sadly I can't put the Pumpkin recipe on because, the member who brought it refused to pass the recipe on. She said there was a secret ingredient which she couldn't tell us about, so that one's a no-no!!!

Welcome to all the new posters, nice to 'see' so many of you.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

    Hey all.

Kat - i was desperate for a pasty yesterday as well. Luckily I was too busy to get one but I suspect I would have eaten three so, as you say, it could have been worse!!!

C31 we were wondering how your soup night went. LOL at the pumpkin soup secret. Bet the ingrediant was something like '15 white cat hairs' and she doesn't want to tell you!

Sounds like people are getting busier. I'm feeling sorry for myself as OH has just gone to the airport to fly to vegas. I'll be joining him in 2 weeks and am flitting between terror of how much i need to get done before i go and how it feels like I've got to wait a lifetime before I get to go!

    I know. I'm such a child. :o

Big free brekky is in oven (and oven helps warm the flat up...brrrr) and soup is started so that it's ready by the time I need to leave this morning. My first red lentil attempt thanks to you good people.

    Have a good day all.

Perhaps a consultant or a medic can tell me............. do domestic scales record the same weight as those at slimming clubs or the doctor's etc?

As previously posted, I lost quite a bit since Jan but have been camping out with relatives since beginning of Sept while I move house. My diet has included all sorts of syns, including 20 bottles of wine left over from my leaving party. Whilst I walk more than I did and I try to have free breakfasts, I feel heavier and my clothes feel a bit tighter.

Now my point is, I bought new bathroom scales yesterday and they show a total loss of 4st 3lb, which is where I was when I left SW in Sept. Can I believe these scales to be accurate?

It's no prob really, as they have the facility to show weight loss or gain each time you use them so I will go by these scales now. I just wanted to know who to believe.

Does anyone have inside knowledge please?

Well I fell slightly off the wagon today  but nothing too serious. One cheese &Onion pasty (!) and one mini mars bar! :o Been so good lately too - now feeling quite annoyed with myself.

I read somewhere that as a body gets use to a diet, we should have 6 days diet and then have one day where we eat what we like, to fool our metabolism. So you might find you have helped your diet katyk?

Morning everyone. Phew, what a week consultant - I hope you have a nice restful weekend! I can only begin to imagine the butterflies you've got JenI, you big kid! Enjoy your soup. I wish I could be as brave as that katyk, but I'm terrible at timekeeping so I'd be too scared - great idea though, to make sure you're walking at a fast pace.

Well, I've had a bit of a whirlwind too, a really busy week at work being coupled with some serious feeding. Most of what I ate was relatively healthy and I have been quite active but ... :o ... anyway, last night BF made me lasagne which when coupled with 2 glasses of wine meant he had to prod me awake at 9pm and shuffle me off to bed, so the week's obviously taken its toll! Anyway, a new day today so I'm going to do an exercise DVD before getting the house sorted. I have friends coming round later then we're off out for the night, another Breast Cancer do, which I hope contains as much "talent" as yours, consultant!

Have a great day everyone! :)
