  • nice one madauri, you'redoing great.

so, what do oyu call bread rolls in your nek of the woods then? This is one of thefavourite conversations in my office(yes we're very sad) and can go on forever!

I'm from Lancashire and I call them muffins. I live in a little village in West Yorkshire and here they call them scufflers.

I'm not aware of the Devonian word.

Been to Tesco and the choice of fresh vegs today was pathetically narrow. I couldn't even find courgettes... snif. Then I realised today there was a fresh market and I've missed it again. And it's only once a month!
I saw butter squash, small ones too. I had considered trying them after seeing a good-looking recipe somewhere around here, but I chickened since they're so large, I still don't know whether I like them and I had no idea how to prepare them. But today I saw prepared trays of ready-to-roast vegs with squash in them, and also cleaned halves. So I bought a small one (they had them for a change) and I've got half roasting.
Only I wish I knew a way of preparing them fast. I spent half an hour fighting the flipping thing. In the end I cut it up in small pieces first and cut the peel off later. Is there any easier method? My wrists hurt now!

Not sure how to prepare them but I had them as soup a few weeks ago as a starter in a restaurant and it was lovely. I saw prepacked halves in tesco buy one get one free the other day.

    Hi all

Squash isn't the easiest vegetable to prepare, but it is worth the effort. I love it roasted, and it goes really well with spicy foods like cajun chicken. I find the best way to peel it is to cut off the top and bottom with a large sharp knife, then peel with a potato peeler. Using the sharp knife again, cut it in half from top to bottom, then scoop out the seeds with a spoon. Lay the halves flat side down on the chopping board and cut into half inch slices, then chop each slice into cubes.

My SW consultant told the class another method, which I haven't tried myself but could be good - cut the squash in half, remove the seeds, fill the cavity with chopped onions and peppers, then bake the whole thing in the over until tender - apparently the skin is edible when cooked.

Well done for your one pound off Madauri.

It was lovely but I have spent all night on the loo and being sick. It would appear that Indian food does not agree with my IBS ! Wish I hadnt bothered now.
