thanks, yeah the label says it has already been frozen so thats why I cant freeze it....Wasnt sure if once it had been cooked it would then be fine, like the ideal of making fish cakes.....if i poach the salmon then mix it with mash potato and some tuna and a bit of salt and pepper will it then be suitable for freezing? and how do i go about cooking them when they come out?
sorry hope these dont seem like stupid questions I dont eat fish so have no idea of cooking it, would just really like to start cooking more for my son, thanks
that sounds a fine fishcake recipe - I would wrap well for the freezer and cooking wise I like to dip in egg and breadcrumbs and fry on each side before finishing off in the oven.
HTHr.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
thanks so much for all your replies....
R.mac would you take them out the freezer and defrost first then dip in egg and breadcrumbs? or straight from frozen?....actually think i know the answer but best to ask lol
Haribojunkie thanks for the link will take a look in a mo....I'm between the computer and the kitchen cooking the diiner lol0 -
Hi aimme,
I would cook the salmon before freezing as if it's been previously frozen it shouldn't be frozen in the same state (ie raw) a second time.
There's an earlier thread with lots of ideas on using up salmon fillets so I've added your thread to it to keep all the suggestions together.

This is my favourite thing to do with a salmon fillet - if you have fresh parsley available, chop a good couple of tbsps worth up and chuck that in the mix too.
Pesto Topped Salmon:
Mixed roughly 3 tbsp mayonnaise with 1 tbsp of pesto and spread on the top of room temperature salmon fillets (covers two nice and thickly, could spread to four small ones thinly spread). Bung under grill for 10-15 mins, depending how thick the fillets are - I serve with rice and green beans usually - yummy0 -
